If so what should they be?
No rights should be absolute if there's more than one person.

Only as it stands now, (can't yell fire in a crowded movie theater). Unfortunately many are working around the constitution and limiting free speech as some are losing their jobs for their political beliefs etc.

@curiosi Free speech only applies when the government is trying to infringe upon it.

Employers are governed by several laws in regards to terminating employees. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, most employers are prohibited from terminating someone because of their race, gender, national origin, disability, religion, genetic information or age (if the employee is 40 or more years old).

From my very first professional job the company manual banned talking politics inside the office. This is a private company that can enact any rules they wish. I talk politics often but technically could be fired for doing so as I signed an agreement to abide by their rules of conduct just as everyone else has.

There should be limitations on the right to be offended, especially if you want to be offended on behalf os someone else

No people deserve the right to make an ass of themselves

Can you handle the consequences?
Carver · 31-35, F
Absolutely not. Sure there are limitations in place today (i.e. inciting violence, being disruptive in certain places) but those are well within reason. What's not within reason is the left's call to ban "hate speech".

@MarmeeMarch Why are you telling me this? Did I say something that made it seem like I think it is?

Free speech is fine until people abuse it by saying offensive things that they needn't say.
Freedom to be a cunt is something else entirely. And goes hand in hand with freedom to receive a beating.

theunderdogofny well if you do that it becomes no longer freedom of speech as such
