Isn't it unethical to take your bothers side even though you know he's wrong?

Example...
Bf and gf have physical fight. The guy is known for being violent towards women. So, the guys sister comes to their house and sees that her brothers gf eye is swollen black. Her immediate response was to tell her "you know he is just going through a lot, so you can't blame him for that."

It’s entirely possible that both were raised in an atmosphere where violence against women was considered acceptable. That would explain why neither have a problem with it, unfortunately.
