I fear due to -
1) physical pain they might inflict on me ..worse they kill me .
2) they might hamper my mental peace and give me hallucinations , illusions , nightmares .
3) they might hurt terribly my people , my loved ones , family ..they might kill them .
4) lastly ..we have boundaries of suffering pain ..suppose we are struggling a lot for an exam but we fail and then suffer , we try and again fail and suffer but each time we have a choice to quit and choose a better thing ..similarly when physical pain/emotional pain exceeds limit , we all have a choice ..which is to embrace death but when things come to supernaturals ..i dont have this option also which scares me ..they will even haunt my soul aftr my death .

@celine211 I think with awareness comes choice, leading to ability or inability. I would think they're connected.

@celine211 I think that animals have that fear, yes. Eg. The other day there was a loud unknown noise in my neighborhood which started a lot of dogs barking in fear.
As far as kids are concerned...I suspect that we are taught to fear the unknown. Religion and folk tales play a role in that I think.
Eg. When I was about 5 yrs old I saw things at night that should not have been there but I did not fear them.
When I was about 12 and properly indoctrinated with religion I also saw things at night that should not have been there. I feared them then.
Also the older we get the more we realise that we are mortal and we do not know the intentions of occult things so we fear them.
So it would seem to be learned behaviour. Similar to hate which we are not born with.

@celine211 I think spirits and ghost do not exist and belong in the same category as pixies, goblins, the boogeyman, gods and devils.
People fear those things because they have been convinced at a young age that they exist and taught to be scared of them as a form of control.
I have no fear of that which does not exist as my parents and family never tried to convince me that those things DID.
