This is tricky because it's difficult to distinguish an empath from an empathetic person.

Honestly, I can't think of any way other than researching and asking people who claim to be empaths. That's how I found out (I'm not an empath).

As well, an empath can feel the emotional trauma or concern of a person from great distances... like you are picking up their emotional state from thin air, even though you are hundreds of miles away from them.
