How do you know if you are an empath?

This is tricky because it's difficult to distinguish an empath from an empathetic person.

Honestly, I can't think of any way other than researching and asking people who claim to be empaths. That's how I found out (I'm not an empath).

Being an empath has nothing to do with being empathetic toward someone.
