'hanging up' is a very old-world thing with no landline phones here. My parents did actually have a wall-mounted phone so you literally had to 'hang up' the handset at the end of a call.
Re your question, a lot of people probably do a lot of odd things now we basically have to use mobile phones and nothing else.

It's typical in Spanish speaking countries to answer the phone "Diga me." Translates to "Talk to me." Hard to imagine answering a call like that in English, but totally fine in Spanish.
Much of traditional English etiquette has been replaced with more casual options. I don't think I've answered the phone asking who is it in my entire life.
Matter of upbringing and such, I imagine.

I'm not sure but I think it depends on the context of the conversation.I always usually would sa.Bye or okay thanks, i am good, or got it. Thanks, have a good day. Etc.
I think you're right some people do.

Not a lot do. I think it's because they get distracted during a conversation with someone else that might be in the room with them or by something else. I was always taught to say hello and goodbye. It is just good etiquette

I always end a call with a parting phrase, call me old fashioned but ending a call without one is rude.

I know how to close a phone call properly. This used to be an annoying practice on the show Seventh Heaven (people hanging up without saying goodbye)
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@Ambroseguy80 its on alot of shows. I think its weird.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
@NeuroticByNature it is. And we wonder why people behave certain ways these days.
I think probably most of the time, but I only get calls from people who want to scam me or let me know about 'the warranty on the vehicle'.
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@dirge I dont get those most of the time.
eyeno · M
Waiting......
I used to do that when I was young.
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@onrealityofdreams you dont now?
@NeuroticByNature No. I'll say 'goodbye' or 'bye'.
SomeMichGuy · M
Hmmmm
I usually sing either the Happy Trails song or We'll Meet Again...

Sometimes I say talk to you later.
Unless it’s a bill collector. Then I tell them hold on while I get my checkbook and “forget” so I hang up.

In sweden we were taught to say "hi it's Martin so and so" first... now i just stay silent cuz i hate phone calls so it's their problem to figure out how to start it 😑 i always do parting phrases
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Maybe it's a habit they get using their phone too much for everything.
FlowerPetal · 22-25, F
Depending on the person and conversation.
