Do people really hang up the phone without saying 'goodbye'?

I remember being taught phone etiquette. I was told when I answer a phone to say 'Hello, who is it?' Then before you hang up you say 'goodbye'. So do people hang up without a parting phrase? You say whatever you have to say then hang up?

It's typical in Spanish speaking countries to answer the phone "Diga me." Translates to "Talk to me." Hard to imagine answering a call like that in English, but totally fine in Spanish.

Much of traditional English etiquette has been replaced with more casual options. I don't think I've answered the phone asking who is it in my entire life.

Matter of upbringing and such, I imagine.
