Do people really hang up the phone without saying 'goodbye'?

I remember being taught phone etiquette. I was told when I answer a phone to say 'Hello, who is it?' Then before you hang up you say 'goodbye'. So do people hang up without a parting phrase? You say whatever you have to say then hang up?

'hanging up' is a very old-world thing with no landline phones here. My parents did actually have a wall-mounted phone so you literally had to 'hang up' the handset at the end of a call.

Re your question, a lot of people probably do a lot of odd things now we basically have to use mobile phones and nothing else.
