Help me decide new phone plan

A. Boost offers 25 dollars a month plan, and they do have actual physical stores too. They offer unlimited text/talk, and I need to call about data..but I"m sure it is reasonable .. per month.

B. Mint Mobile offers $15 a month plans (for first 3 months) then it goes to $25 a month, with 5 GB per month and unlimited talk/text. They do not have physical stores, so everything will be done online.

What do you think? Both sound very reasonable... I just need to buy a new phone too. Boost offers a couple phones under 100 bucks (in store), and I saw a Motorola that looked good. Any ideas welcome.

1) Make the decision based on the long term costs, not a 3-month promotion.

2) Know the data pricing before you make a decision because this can get very expensive.

3) Sub- $100 phones are ubiquitous. Look around, they are out there.

I'll do some looking for you and see what I come up with. I was going to go with Motorola, but then I thought, well...... maybe the Motorola won't have what Samsung has..... and what I mean by that is..... like Samsung might be full Android everything, and Motorola might not be. So like if you're used to Samsung and you're curious about Motorola, I'd say look into Motorola and see what those phones offer, as far as useability.

I've had phones where Android was out, but my phone wasn't full on Android, it was like, the next level down or something. I'll check it out and get back to ya ;)

I've been with Mint for two years and couldn't be happier. The 5GB, which they boosted to 15GB after year one, is all I ever need... actually never used more than the 5GB. If you use your phone mostly where it's connected to WiFi, then 5GB does it nicely.

@Ontheroad Ok cool. I can't seem to find a price for 2 lines. I will recheck... I think it could be 50 dollars, not sure. I know it showed one line on the main page (the prices for 3 months, for one line). I appreciate your tips and help !! 🫂

@Coralmist here is a link (look at the top line where it says "Family Plan). https://www.mintmobile.com/

Also, they have a special on right now for a Samsung pnone... see picture.

5GB is not a lot of data. I pay $50 CDN ($37 USD) per month and I get 100GB of data with unlimited talk/text. You're in the US. There have to be plans that offer you better data than that for 25 dollars per month. And shop Wal Mart for phones.

@Coralmist below is a link for the CAT S62 from walmart.com/usa. I forgot that I got mine on sale. It's between $120-$140 USD but it will last you for years. You don't have to get it but make sure that you get a phone will Gorilla Glass. Screens are expensive to replace. Oftentimes you'll spend $60 on a phone but $100 just to replace the screen. Please take my advice. I ended up with this phone because the screen on my last one broke and would cost $150 CDN to replace. It was smarter to get another phone.

Samsung phones have models with Gorilla Glass.

@Coralmist you're welcome. You can order online for pick up at your local store. That's what I did to avoid the risk of package theft. Took a week because it came from the US. You'd probably get it in 48 hours.

Those sounds quite expensive actually 😮

It's €7/mo for 70GB of data with unlimited calls and texts here (or €8/mo if you want 5G speed) 🙈 I thought 5GB plans were a relic of the past, let alone for that price!
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Elessar 5gb was the lowest plan, they have much higher data plans but for like 60 bucks a month, It said online most people only use roughly 3 to 5 GB. I probably use less. I do agree it could be a bit less money.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Coralmist 60 bucks a month is insane tbh 🙈

I just walked by a Boost kiosk at the mall.

I went to Burlington earlier and got two bed pillows for $15! And $10 of socks.

Yet I am now in the Cheesecake Factory. I just ordered fettuccini alfredo with shrimp. Definately more than $15.

In the UK we have a number of options which avoid locking into a contract. I have a dual-SIM Motorola which is currently retailing around £100 on Amazon. My SIMs are from 2 different providers - one costs me £5 per month and the other £6. That gives me a combined 4Gb a month - which I never exhaust - and the cheaper one gives me cheap international calls. The markets throughout the world vary so I can't really say with any certainty that what works for me would do for you.
ArtieKat · M
@Coralmist Do you not have any Pay-as-you-go options where you are?
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@ArtieKat Mint is actually a Pay as you go... with better data than the Prepaid one I've already had. No contracts yay!! It is a bit more like I said, than my last prepaid phone plan, but not too much more. It is probably the best I'm finding, out of most plans, for price. I just need to buy a phone now online lol. My other phone is so cracked that it is affecting the phone- it goes haywire sometimes ughhh.

@Coralmist I've always found Amazon good value for phones. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Beware of monthly costs most of them are only 28 days so 13 per year. Have a look at yearly plans...often cheaper. Also look at Data allowance and overseas phone calls are they included?
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
wow that's insane. My local telco makes me pay $21 USD and I get 150GB of Data monthly + 200Min of Talk and 200 Messages. It's an online company and it took me 3 working days from sign up to get my SIM. Porting over the number took like 10s on the site itself.

The data would be the key for me. Check with Boost before making a decision. Personally I am old fashioned. I like a store and face to face transactions. But, in the end who has the best deal for you.
