Staying homeless is by choice. There’s no reason for anyone to still be homeless after more than 6 months. That’s laziness

Some people are homeless by choice but probably most are not. Now the question is what's the other choice of those who have it. Lots of them are kids who ran away from abuse at home.

A surprising amount of it most definitely is by choice.

@anythingoes477 Yours maybe.

In America we are taught that we are better than our neighbors so that's why homelessness is no big deal. It MUST be "their" fault. Maybe they don't even believe in the wars and the sellouts and the flag and being holier than thou....
Maybe "they" just don't count.
From the way people here talk about patriotism and no medicare for all, I can understand...

I was just thinking that anybody can become homeless at any time.

Sometimes its a choice or sometimes theres no other choice i know ppl that built a shanty sort of thing between the highway sides in a covered area looked kinda cozy no rent had a little garden. Kinda nice no neifhbors no rent they were unemployed mustve been cold in winter. Hence they were rooting for global warming but i think they werent able to find a job and afford rent didnt have kids. Its cheaper and public land so. Have at.

Maybe someone might choose to be homeless for a bit because say, they have a toxic and stressful home environment that they need to get away from. But most of the time, it's beyond someone's control.
And then there might be a situation that someone got themselves into which led to them being homeless. Like getting addicted to drugs and being unable able to go to work, and then not being able to pay the rent, etc.

I've worked with homeless people and there are times it is a choice, but in my experience it's been devastating events in people's lives that have mentally caused them to go off the rails and unable to work or pay their bills.
Shadyglow · F
@BasedTurnip2391 From what I know and have experienced and seen, the bottom falls out and then no home and then people go slightly loopy.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I've known a few who have decided they wanted to live the homeless life .
I can't imagine very many would want to.

I suppose sometimes it is by choice, but mostly I think it is the result of unavoidable circumstance.
NerdyPotato · M
It usually isn't, as confirmed by your example.
NinaCherry · 26-30, F
how do u get internet
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@NinaCherry Free Wi-Fi zones.
Most times not
Elisbch · M
No, I don't.

Some people have claimed it to be a choice, which surprised me, when I first heard that. Most of the homeless people I’ve known as a volunteer were trying to find homes.
