I’m doing pretty good. Just purchased a robot vacuum to make my life easier.

Does anyone else hate the word "adulting"?
@SW-User probably.

@nonsensiclesnail its starting to get a bit annoying to be fair
@MartinTheFirst So does being an adult, but it too is still a thing.
Being an adult sucks. Like as a kid you you could get a bully in trouble and the police would take care of you generally. As an adult you're just supposed to tolerate bullies and have no one to really turn to for help and are just as likely to get shot by the cops as being helped by them. Also all the responsibilities. Making your own food, paying your own bills, doing your own laundry. It really isnt worth it for what you get out of it.

There was a TAFE college course offered in my area, offering to teach all school leavers what they need to know about being an adult, the things they don't teach you in school. The course outline was things like: Why is insurance important. Superannuation. How to pay bills etc, etc.

They told me I couldn't sign up cause I was 38 years old! Well fuck... I need to know this stuff too.

None of us are girl, we're just bumping around like pinballs hoping we'll land somewhere nice for a brief moment.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
I mean...when I worked full time, had decent credit, had a nice little nest egg in the bank, and had no felonies or anything else on my background check, I still did not qualify for a modest rental house.

So...maybe it's not that we aren't adulting properly, it's that the "system" is designed to have us fail.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@DearAmbellina2113 Kind of like when we were in our early 20's and there was the party crowd. Drinking, drugs, etc. All the things we were told not to do.

But somehow they go on to have a decent life while those of us who did the "right" thing and stayed clean - we are in BS positions now.

The only thing we can really do NOW is - do not put much effort in something unless results are almost immediate AND remember, "Hard work might pay off in time but laziness pays off now."

Hey I do just the minimum to get by.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@CestManan you're telling my life story right now!
CestManan · 46-50, F
@DearAmbellina2113 I think you and I have probably been through a lot of the same BS in life.
Hey at least at our age the world isn't trying as hard to get us to screw up our lives more than necessary.
morrgin · F
Is that the same as being mature and responsible?
Poppies · 61-69, F
@morrgin From hearing other people use it, it sounds like it means working at the tasks that adults are supposed to do, but not necessarily in a mature or responsible way--that part is to be determined.
ChaoticKate · 18-21, F
@morrgin pretty much, adulting means being a successful adult, like do you do do your laundry all the way, folded and hung, or do you shove it in the drawer. do you have a good job or are you struggling to make ends meet. do you cook dinner or eat fast food everyday. things like that
morrgin · F
@ChaoticKate it would be great if my laundry made it to a drawer

I feel like I'm some sort of weird hybrid of an adult-kid abomination
I never have and I never will
Constantly feel that way
meJess · F
Adulthood is not always a question of age and may be adulterated by other factors. Thus ones adultness may be challenged, but attempting to behave in a mature fashion does not make one an adulterer.

Presumably an adult ting is a ting that has reached physical maturity.
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
Nobody does… we all figure it out as we go

some days I feel like a kid who got lost in the supermarket (panicky and confused)… and I have kids of my own haha.

You’re doing fine
Ontheroad · M
Don't be concerned, or at least not overly so. We adults often look around us and wonder the same thing. Then we get up and keep on with the keeping on... it's life, it's often total chaos, enjoy it.

I had a supervisor once tell me "you can only do what you can only do". Don't sweat it.
