Have you ever tried to make a deal with God?

hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
No. I have learned to trust His plan and the outcome He brings about however He chooses to do it. Funny little story. I was a new born Christian and I was helping Dad take the crop off. One of the highspeed shafts on the combine snapped and I needed a replacement. Getting the replacement would require 6 weeks of waiting. I didn't have 6 weeks to wait so I prayed long and hard for a miracle. I even gave God a deadline. He had to have the combine back in the field by noon the next day. At 8 am the shaft was still broken and the combine was still in the shop. In anger I took the two halves of the shaft and with limited welding skills I stuck them back together. I put it back on the machine and fired it up. The shaft ran straight and so I took the combine back into the field. It worked! The combine finished that day and the day after that and the day after that as well. In fact the shaft never broke again. Later that night I was still angry with God. He had not performed the miracle by noon like I demanded. Then I came to the realization that I had started combining about 11:30 AM. God had performed a miracle. The miracle had come through my own hands and feeble welding skills.

@Imsleepy I work with homeless people every day trying to find them work and help them with their addictions. What do you do to alleviate poverty?
Imsleepy · 31-35
You’re missing the point. You help homeless people. Just like you fixed your tractor. It had nothing to do with god. @hippyjoe1955

@Imsleepy You are missing the point. If you are actually worried about the poor you would be doing something to help them IF not then you are a hypocrite for accusing God of doing what you are doing except that makes God bad while you are right.

nope. you can't. all you can ask for is help and hope through prayer
bowman81 · M
Yeah, but it usually didn't work out well.
Piper · 61-69, F
Yes, sort of, in the way of a prayer.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
I have tried. Now I pray.

Uhhhh...it's really hard to discribe it. I don't believe there is a deal from God. God doesn't make deals with his own images.

Unless...giving your life to Christ in order to be saved and sins are paid is somewhat a Deal...I don't even know if it's a "Deal" since it's Eternal.

Since Deals don't last and deals means you risk it. Sure risking your Temple as in "Body" but that's in God's Timing though.

So that said. God's Gift is free.

But my confusion side. It's hard to describe "Deals" when it comes to God.

And making deal with Satan is just smoke. Sure throwing your soul away just for desire of this world but the life of desire doesn't make life perfect either.
This definition of prayer seems accurate. Personally, I think it’s just inaction.

Prayer
A recited incantation designed to force or cajole a deity or deities into changing the normal, existing, or probable course of events in the universe, obtain an advantage, or avoid a divine penalty. Also an expression of gratitude or adulation, or an affirmation of continual fear, made to a deity.

A prayer is often accompanied by a promise or a sacrifice (the firstborn, money, giving up a favorite vice, not lying, a select bit of food the priests can eat) to seal or satisfy the agreement. A spell.

I wonder what those couple of lucky 'charms' tasted like. Were they magically delicious?

Yes I tried in desperation

Remember when the Three Stooges would fight and one would always just place a hand at arm's length against his brother's forehead while the other one kept swingin' away?

That's my experience trying to make deals with God.
@Graylight 🤔

I don't deal with imaginary people.
PatKirby · M
Yep, I asked the Creator of All to send me to Earth to learn about corporeal life. He's expecting a full report when I get back, and in return provide a personal tour of the Universe.

yeah but I don't want to bother him further. I'm just gonna go signal some aliens and ask them. or maybe I'll try to find a magic lamp in an antique shop.
LordShadowfire · 46-50
Yup. Didn't work. And that's when I realized that when you're dealing with a supposedly omniscient being, prayer is actually pretty useless.
