Pope Francis is going to allow priests in some countries to marry. Will this change the ideals of the church? [Spirituality & Religion]

The altar boys should be a little safer now.

They can breathe a little easier next Sunday @Bastard:
@Bastard: Sadly, that doesn't generally stop pedophiles.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
In reality though altar boys haven't been a thing for a while now. They have to be adult parish members. @bijouxbroussard:

I think he's going to allow married men to be ordained. If you're unmarried, I think you still enter the priesthood and take a vow of celibacy like the Eastern Churches.

not in the christian church.. christian pastors are allowed to marry

Mary is a saint to Roman Catholics, it doesn't mean that Christ is not at the forefront of our beliefs @theowl:

all i heard before was that he wasnt seen as the same as outside of the catholic church. like within the catholic church mary is on the same level or almost above him.

I guess you were given false information

Its a compromise of standards but I think its in the best interest of the people.

The Eastern Rite Catholics have always been allowed to have married clergy. Nothing new with Pope Francis.

Maybe the Catholic church
@SweetMae: Are there any other denominations that won't let their clergy marry ? 🤔
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Might stabilize the priests
I'm curious to know how he'll determine who can and who can't.

Maybe they will stop molesting kids
@Chernobylplayground: No, those are pedophiles, but maybe the church won't be able to hide them as well.

@bijouxbroussard: yes , true ...one can hope ... I think possibly it could be down to they just take whatever is easiest to access ...they take advantage of the vulnerable

@bijouxbroussard: we can only hope

Those ideals are very outdated anyways..some hardcore believers will be upset, but they're upset all the time ,seeing the devil in everything that doesn't involve crosses

Yeah, they probably won't idolize pedophilia as much.
I don't know what the relation between celibacy and child molestation is, but there seems to be something going on these days.
@IvanKaramazov: It just seems illogical that children would ever be a sexual option to an adult who wasn't a sexual predator anyway---celibate or not.
Strange, unnatural conditions make people do strange, unnatural things. Lots of men in prison aren't gay or even normally disposed to rape, and yet prison rape is commonplace. Between the vulnerability of children and the willingness of the Catholic Church to protect its own, there's a certain climate of permissiveness and possibility. You don't have to pay for prostitutes, and you don't have to run the risk of getting rejected by some woman in your congregation and have rumors get around that you're not living by the rules.
Hes a stooge.. But I agree with letting clergy find love and happiness.. Keeps Em out of the dormitories

Wow, priests marrying other priests. I knew the Church would recognize homosexuality eventually. It's a helluva lot cheaper than those pesky lawsuits.
