Why is it wrong to have God and Religion in schools? [Spirituality & Religion]

Everyone seems to love the american dollars and everyone of them say
"In God We Trust"

I mean the logo of “in god we trust” is a clear contradiction of the separation of church and state, but it was add in the cold war to differentiate us from the Communist, and no one has cared enough to remove it sense we Christianity is our largest religious group
@GodSpeed63 That’s your comeback?!?
You must be a bot then.
Seriously that’s your comeback?!?
Do you read and follow every word of the bible?

I'm not the one that asking the same question over and over again.
@GodSpeed63 You seriously offered

as your comeback! Do you read and follow every word of the bible?

I don’t think it’s necessarily wrong but in terms of public school if you allow one you gotta allow them all. Which I think is a great idea personally. Teaching the origins and information of many religions can be a great thing to understand.
JBird · F

Atheism is the public school's present acceptable religion.
JBird · F
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit as an awareness, yes, it's advisable. That way kids can make decision to choose religion over time if they want rather brainwashing them with doctrines without understanding the context of it.
Atheism isn’t a religion and schools don’t currently teach atheism. @hippyjoe1955
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
I disagree with the In God We Trust thing on money because like you can't just pray for more money and have it be so, it doesn't work like that. So it's def. not a very practical saying on money, I more like the saying "In Humans We Trust" because that makes more cents.

Religion and God in school are not necessarily wrong but could cause trouble because each religion is so absolute in their thinking. All their texts each say the other is wrong and there's certain superstitions for how you should act etc. There's certain rules and what is considered as bad and presents a very us vs. them world mentality.

Like Muslims and Christians can get along well because they are both part of the Abrahamic religions but even then that's debatable because we have a large majority of Evangelicals that don't accept Muslims and vice versa.

Then most of the Abrahamic religions have certain similar traits like they all don't accept other alternative religions like people who are in one of the polytheistic religions.

What it boils down to is that there's so many different people from so many backgrounds, how can you learn about religion if each one is convinced their right?

Then there's atheism, some kids may not want to pray in school because that's not what they believe. There's a long history there when kids were forced to pray in school or be disciplined. The woman responsible for getting it removed in schools actually got death threats.

Thus the problem with religion in school.
BiblicalWarrior · 51-55, M
@SatanBurger Here in Canada, where I live, some of the public schools are now mandating the learning of Arabic for all students in order to accommodate Muslim students, and other now formerly public schools have been converted to Muslim schools. We even have formerly Christian churches which have been converted to mosques.
Schools should be objective and practical about religion, but they should not promote any one religion above another.
SW-User
@puck61 if they were objective they'd be teaching Dawkins and Hitchens. You'd be certainly hear the squawking then
SW-User
The reason is because those religious people tend to spread their agenda and forcing others to believe it.

I don't hate religion but I hate being force to believe something I didn't even want.
BethA · F
@SW-User it could be like taking another class like Spanish or French ect....
That’s okay with me. I just can’t imagine practicing because tats like participating. @BethA
Nobody I know thinks it's wrong.

What's wrong is imposing faith on people who have no faith, or faith on people of different faith.

There's nothing wrong having a period of time where kids can pray, read the bible, meditate. Even let them break into peer groups. Or do homework, read, whatever they like.

It's a problem to have a publicly funded school and to subject all students to the same religious activity.
SW-User
@CopperCicada well you know me and I think it is profoundly wrong. I don't pay taxes to have my kids trained in misogyny
@SW-User when I went to school we had an hour to do as we liked. There was no instruction.
SW-User
@CopperCicada I was more referring to the opening post. We didn't have much free time
Which and which religion. That goes against the constitution not respecting the establishment of a religion. The American idea of a melting pot couldn't work if it slowly started to become a theocracy. Which has always always turned out bad for a country.

It’s not wrong
ron122 · 41-45, M
It's hard to please everybody but some people don't believe and don't want prayers in school. We should be thanking God for the dollars we have so we can live a good life
JBird · F
Religion is a personal choice while education is mandatory. I think it's kind of desparate when religious groups tries to teach and brainwash children at a young age on schools about the doctrines when it's actually a spiritual experience that one needs to attain on their own.
SW-User
I don’t mind religion being taught in schools , as long as everyone is allowed to believe in what they want and don’t feel bullied or pressured into it. Atheism was also taught when I was in school as we had to do assignments on what we believed in. Many didn’t believe which was also accepted and didn’t effect their grades.
Tminus6453 · M
They only have religion in private/catholic schools around here, so its the parents choice if they want their kids to be exposed to relgion.... and using currency has nothing to do with ones religious beliefs
TheWildEcho · 61-69, M
The man who got it banned was a communist who later became a Christian and deeply regretted getting it banned. Here in the UK Christian's are allowed in many schools and a lot of schools have after hours Christian activities, one school near here has a third of the kids attending, they love it so much!
@TheWildEcho We started out each day with prayer and a scripture reading, followed by the pledge of allegiance. Things have changed since then.
IndridCold · 46-50, M
It's not. If you want to go to a Christian school, or a Muslim school, you can go.

Public schools however, are right not to allow it. You allow one, you have to allow them all. And there's already enough bullshit to deal with in public education without bringing religion into the mix.
BethA · F
@IndridCold oops i knew it wasnt right but i didnt look it up either sorry
BethA · F
@IndridCold all fixed 😁
lever2000 · 46-50, M
@BethA Nobody can be compelled to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
I don't believe it's "wrong" in schools...but from time to time somebody makes a stink out of it.
HannahSky · F
There's laws you can read up on that tell you directly.
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
It isn't as long the school is not promoting a specific religion.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
maybe in Public Schools But theres Chatholtic Schoolls & Christian
daisymay · 51-55, T
They'd love the pre-1950s dollars just as much 🤷‍♀️
Education is about enlightenment with science and facts not fiction.
@puck61 That's the dumbest shit I've ever read.
JBird · F
@puck61

That is why some people hate God and old time religion. Atheism is just a religion of resentment. Atheist have a stronger belief in God than most monotheists.
1. Atheists don't believe in God. How can they hate something that they don't believe exists?

2. Atheism isn't a religion. It's the absence of religion.

Seems like you're driven by ignorance. But yeah, thanks for the laughs
@JBird Atheists have an enviable belief in God. They just resent God, like spoiled children resent their parents when they don't get what they want. Atheism is a religion.
firefall · 61-69, M
yes, and that's wrong too

@SW-User The truth is that you could not objectively teach the history of religion without also damning it, and nobody religious would be happy about that.

I don’t think it’s wrong per se but it doesn’t suit everyone. Some people aren’t religious. I think if it’s taught from the perspective that science history and other subjects are taught it’s okay.
SW-User
It is wrong to use public schools to teach any made up destructive and discriminatory bullshit as 'fact'

Keep it on your own time and your own dime
SW-User
@questionWeaver ? I'm meant to care? When it comes to indoctrinating children stick to your own. It shouldn't need to be said.
@SW-User I am not arguing with you ... I am ignoring you
@SW-User Thank you
In parochial schools they do. But public schools are attended by (and paid for by) people of all faiths, believers of many different deities. So why would we force one belief system on them ? The dollar didn’t always say “In God We Trust” and even now it doesn’t specify whose.
If we start having any God or religion in public schools, we’d better make room for all of them and treat them equally.
because religion is cool. In Indonesia you can get beaten to pulp by public by admitting you're atheist
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
Satan doesn't want them there.
SW-User
@GodSpeed63 As referring 'scapegoat' in bibical context, Satan will always take the blame of bad action that was made by the human itself.

Even when Adam and Eve thrown from Heaven because of evil influence from 'satan' telling them to eat the fruit.

And yes, I feel sorry for myself once believing and blaming Satan made me doing bad things while I am fully aware of my action and I never ever had Satan along with me while committing the sins.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@SW-User

That's true in some cases but not in all. Satan is a liar and the father of them. He loves us being gullible to his ways so he can control us better and keep us from being free to be ourselves as God created us to be from the very beginning.
@GodSpeed63 Do you read and follow every word of the bible?
Eternity · 26-30, M
Nothing so long as:

1) ALL religions are allowed

2) It is 100% OPTIONAL as per the individual student's request.

3) students who do not want to participate are equally accommodated for. Ie: do not have to even attend religious functions.

None of that "you don't have to pray but you do have to attend" bullshit.
Cause people have grown to not want bullshit force fed down there throats
@GodSpeed63 According to yourself. Do you read and follow every word of the bible?
