You hear the word devoid of any context. What is your initial reaction when you hear or read the word "feminism?"

I ask because the term comes up in so many posts here.

The word has been somewhat tainted in the modern context by fringe elements that peddle hysteria and misandry. Still, I prefer to think of the word in the context of women representing women and fighting for women, with good and honest intent. As such I don't fear feminism at all, it isn't a threat to me. Radical feminism is a threat to a peaceful society, as are most radical ideologies.

A positive reaction, mostly, because I've rarely thought of "feminism" as anything but a good thing. Of women no longer being considered the property of a man, or being considered as somehow inferior. Of not being able to make their own choices, in many ways. Of being considered worthy of positions men formerly dominated, and not being paid less because they are a woman.

Negative only because of what might follow...all the negative things some people will inevitably attribute to "feminism", and also because some who call themselves feminists actually do espouse views that give the word a negative connotation.

Pride in the historical achievements of those who have gone before me, which make my life a little easier 🙂

What first comes to mind is the hard work & struggle, which I appreciate, especially as a woman from a country with a male-dominated culture.

Joy and relief that I live in a world where there is feminism and it has had so much influence.

I really don't hear that word ever except on social media, the news. Its never something I have ever discussed.

Abandonment. Where are the so called feminists picketing and objecting to the fact that women's sports are being usurped by trans men? Where are the rabid feminists freaking out over the fact that Ketanji Brown Jackson can't even DEFINE a woman?

IMO Feminists are now losers who have abandoned their raison d'etre.
I hear "Feminazi" .
@ServantOfTheGoddess Your frown/dislike emoji did not make me feel any better about it.

@LamontCranston What would make you feel better about equal rights for all?

No reaction, a choice you left out.

Modern feminism is ruining the lives of us women. It has helped to cause a collapse in marriage rates and falling birth rates.Men run from feminists.Femenism of today is pretty much a hate movement.

Positive. Feminism has largely been a good thing for women and for myself. I live a better quality of life now then I would have a hundred years or more ago.
Ontheroad · M
Mostly a positive reaction... not 100% of the time, but out of context, I get a positive feeling.
Magenta · F
It's not a positive reaction.

A woman fightlng for her rights. Mostly positive. Some have turned it into hate against men and thats where it gets negative. A womans rights should be fought for to be equal to a mans
I became a feminist as a teenager in the 70s, but like so much else, the understanding of the term has changed over the last decades.

Then and now, I always saw it as the concept that women are human beings entitled to equal
opportunities and civil rights as men.

Politics. It's about money and power, not people.
Feminism in its early days was a very good and needed movement, today it has been perverted by extremism.
