You hear the word devoid of any context. What is your initial reaction when you hear or read the word "feminism?"

I ask because the term comes up in so many posts here.

A positive reaction, mostly, because I've rarely thought of "feminism" as anything [i]but[/i] a [b]good[/b] thing. Of women no longer being considered the property of a man, or being considered as somehow inferior. Of not being able to make their own choices, in many ways. Of being considered worthy of positions men formerly dominated, and not being paid less [i]because[/i] they are a woman.

Negative only because of what might follow...all the negative things some people will inevitably attribute to "feminism", and also because [i]some[/i] who call themselves feminists actually do espouse views that give the word a negative connotation.
