Why Do Some People Close Their Eyes To The Truth?

They call it cognitive dissonance. It’s hard for them to accept things that contradict what they have been taught by the educational system, media, etc. So they refuse to accept it even when evidence is starting to present itself. I’ve had conversations with younger people who will drop the conversation when you give them a bit of evidence that contradicts their belief and they’ll either change the subject or clam up not even wanting to hear a few words about it.

I guess it easier than facing the reality.
The truth as hard as it can be I can deal with, but tip-toeing around reality just keeps you in a state of inertia and lengthens the time it takes for you to have to prepare and deal with the inevitable.
@Adrift you are absolutely right. Thank you. I'd rather face the truth so that I can make the needed adjustments in my life that will make me a better person. We are all works in progress and for me personally, facing the truth helps me to see myself the way I really am. Of course I go by Bible based principles that help greatly in making me a better person though not so much in others eyes, but in God's eyes. And that's all that really matters to me at the end of the day.
The video doesnt work, so I guess it will remain a mystery.
@ShellSeeker Ok. I was thinking of an individual who is the driver of a with others in the car, but ignores all traffic regulations even though his friends try to get him/her to slow down and drive safely. Why? Here's the truth that's being ignored: They could have a serious accident or worse all could be killed in a crash.
@ShellSeeker there are other scenarios and examples that could be used.

And then some folks don't want anyone telling them what to do, not even God.
@seotelkniwt I don’t agree with people who make these decisions but it’s someone who thinks they know the road, the driving conditions and the performance of the car well enough that they feel they know more about the situation than everyone else.

This could be a metaphor for a conspiracy theorist - they reject the truth because they believe themselves better informed than everyone else. Until the car crashes.

They're hungover and truth shines too bright!?
@Unlearn they're hung over spiritually and the brilliant light of the truth is to bright for them to accept.

@seotelkniwt nice rephrasing. You get the gist...
@Unlearn Thank you.
I don't know, but I wish you guys would stop.
@LordShadowfire We've finally agreed upon something. I've opened my eyes to the real truth and I'm so much happier. What do you consider truth in general? I believe you can find all the so-called truth in the world, but many are still not happy. People are still searching for true happiness and real peace.
@seotelkniwt Nah, you've got your eyes shut. Truth is, the afterlife is what you imagine it will be, and we are the creator.
@LordShadowfire Nope. There is no such thing as an after life where one's so-called spirit leaves the body upon death and goes off aimlessly floating around possessing people and haunting houses. The Bible does not speak of an afterlife.
