Be honest with me

I have yet to figure that out. Everyone says they value honesty but they never consider what that means. One person's honesty might be different from another. And then you have people who have things going on by which they see the world differently.

I think of neurodivergent people. Bipolar, autism, adhd, personality disorders, depression. They'll have different ways of seeing the world 🌎

I'm not trying to say that anyone is correct or incorrect as that's highly subjective but I don't think people get what honesty means

Maybe not always. (People are gonna come for me haha) I think we all think we want honesty 100% of the time, but maybe some things are best left unsaid.

That being said… Lying knowingly with intent to deceive someone or manipulate their perception is unacceptable

So here's the thing. There are lies we tell that are meant to harm, and lies we tell that are meant to help. The latter group are known as "little white lies," and honestly, they are the social lubricant of our society. Things like, "No, sweetie, it wasn't you, it was them," or "Yeah, you sing great" after an absolutely awful karaoke session. Things that, if we had a 100% honesty policy, would lose us friends.

So no. I don't think honesty is always the best policy, so long as you avoid telling harmful lies. Omitting things people have a right to know, deceiving them about things you've done, or things that others are doing. Those are the kind of lies we should avoid.

Not always. Sometimes you have to lie to save your life but I think most people living in civilized parts of the world don't really find themselves in situations like that.

for piece of mind? Absolutely. Financially? probably not...but I guess I would rather be honest.

Not always. White lies keep relationships and societies running smoothly. It is not always necessary to say the hurtful truth. Its a technique humans use to get things harmonius.
