I think it’s just confirmation you have a good heart. :-)

Don’t feel bad, if he got away with it, he’d get the confidence to do something worse later.

@SW-User ABSOLUTELY!

@SW-User but he's gone missing ...

I don't know what normal is anymore...I just know right from wrong.
If we all thought that way, you wouldn't write your first line...money was stolen.
Does it give anyone the right to steal your hard earned money?
Why should you feel guilty for someone's trouble?
You think they would feel the same way about you if you did that to them.
If his family is distraught,they should seek help.Some folks want us to feel sorry for them. I am a kind person who likes to help people, but you don't steal from me. Good luck.

@TechniCoIorBroccoli I'm sure you're right.
BemyValentine · F
@Serenitree @TechniCoIorBroccoli The parents should be concerned how their child got to where they are now...like as to why they stole.
Serenitree · F
@BemyValentine It could have something to do with living conditions where they live. The son just might have been doing this for a long while and not telling his family where the money was coming from, if he feels an obligation to help support them.
Carver · 31-35, F
You're very nice. 🤗 But stealing is still stealing and you had every right to take back what was stolen from you. That's unfortunate for the family if they've fallen on hard times but that is never any excuse to steal from people. It's okay to feel sorry for them but you shouldn't feel bad for getting your money back. You need to provide for yourself too.
testbutton · 51-55, M
to help you feel better I am volunteering to take that money off your hands... if you really want to feel good, you can give some extra...
it's ok to feel sorry for people, but if you forgive them quickly for their wrongdoing, they won't feel guilty the next time they do it.

@testbutton like I said I was happy to take ny money till I heard about his parents
testbutton · 51-55, M
@TechniCoIorBroccoli it seems you cared more about his parents feelings then the criminal did. if they cared, they wouldn't put their family through the ordeal of stealing.
acpguy · C
I probably would have felt the same as you. I grew up poor and lived in basically a slum. So I would have had a problem with them taking the money from the parents. From the time I was 11 to 15 I raked leaves, mowed grass, shoveled snow and did other odd jobs then would give my folks half the money I made. So I know what poor is. But it did make me stronger, I turned out good and learned to work for what I have now.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
If I was his parent, I would want to sort out the issue out as quickly as possible, ie get you and anybody else their money back. My sadness would be in that my child had carried out this act, lost his job, felt that he couldn't come to me if he was in need, etc. The people involved here are probably the same as me, you get your money back and they feel happier, nothing for you to worry about.
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@GeniUs thank you. I didn't file charges as I don't want to hurt his family anymore which means I won't be able to claim from my insurance but I don't need to take that money at the cost of destroying is future as he won't get a job again without police verification
GeniUs · 56-60, M
I hope his family can sort him out but you have made a huge contribution to that already by not making the situation any worse for them. This has made me consider what I would have done in that scenario.
CheshireCatalyst · 41-45, M
It's normal to feel the way you do, you're human and you can see that through no fault of your own other people have suffered.
It's strange that the family have been made to reimburse you, technically it should be the responsibility of the hospital for employing him. Even then though, you'd be taking money back from the 'wrong' place so it would cause an uncomfortable feeling.

TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@CheshireCatalyst exploitation of recovering from family happens in developing countries in Asia
Serenitree · F
This is a kind heart who cares. Not abnormal at all, but kind of self defeating. You were robbed. The hospital,did right by reimbursing you, but going after his family is simply wrong. If he's an adult, not a minor, the family is, in no way, responsible for making restitution for his crime.
Feel bad? Sure. It's a sad situation, but remember, you didn't do anything to feel guilty about. He did...the hospital,will, if they persecute his family for his wrong doing. You're the victim here, not the criminal. Don't beat yourself up.

@Serenitree no social security here ..he's from v poor background ...I know it's wrong to steal I know it all ..I was happy to get my money till I heard his mom was broken and crying and the family is feeling ashamed
Serenitree · F
@TechniCoIorBroccoli I know. It's sad. I'd feel shame too if it was one of mine. But well, here's a plan....why don't you visit the family? Tell,them you feel bad for their suffering and shame, but that you don't hold them responsible.
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@Serenitree that would give me some peace but the hospital won't divulge his address. I also fear that his family will be harassed for even more money by the hospital management ...the practices here are well dodgy
I think you have a good heart, but maybe you're still in shock about what happened. If family was upset, there could have been many reasons for that... what he's done was against the law and a violation against you. I'm so sorry that has happened to you & I hope you continue to enjoy your visit w family
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@IntoMeYouSee thanks I appreciate your words Steve
JerseyGal · 56-60, F
To feel bad for his parents, yes I understand. Your money was stolen though & since the person was caught on footage, it's only right you receive your money back. The family is upset that he would do that. But, at least they know now & can try to help him not do it again. They needed to know. You did nothing wrong.
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@JerseyGal they feel ashamed and I feel it's coz of me ...it's not their fault ..
Pherick · 41-45, M
Are you from the US? If so, the hospital will not be getting the money back from his parents, well perhaps if he is underage the hospital could take them to court?
Even then, by and large parents are not responsible to reimburse people from their children's bad behavior.

@Pherick I'm visiting my mom in another country in Asia

MikeSp · 56-60, M
The crime against you has nothing to do with his family. You were correct to report it. They can react however they want. He probably has a history of sticky fingers, and their tears are probably for him being fired from another job, not for your loss.
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@MikeSp poor parents though
YoMomma ·
Well you didn't know..? That's nice you have sympathy but they need to take responsibility..?
Sigh
Sigh
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@YoMomma it's him not them who did it 😟
YoMomma ·
Well. Tell them not to bother? Idk 😬
YouCanCallMeDan · 41-45, M
He wasn’t thinking about you when he stole from you. He might of kept stealing if he had got away with it. You shouldn’t feel bad.
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@YouCanCallMeDan true but I feel awful. Thank u
Think of all the others he may have stolen from... hopefully they and their family will get the help they need now...

You're a good soul
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@SW-User or just stupid 😕
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
Stealing is a crime and they should have asked you instead of just taking it. And should you feel bad about taking back what was yours? Not really. Should you feel bad about their situation? Of course! But don't combine the two. If you want to give them money, then give them money.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@TechniCoIorBroccoli If they held onto it after him, they stole it as well
TechniCoIorBroccoli · 46-50, F
@MartinTheFirst marty they didn't know apparently. He's gone missing with the money
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@TechniCoIorBroccoli Aha I see.
496sbc · 36-40, M
Yes and no. Yes it normal to feel this way and no because well
He stole from you. Straight up. If it was the other way around would he have let you go. I bet not.
