Am I normal?

My money was stolen by a hospital cleaner on Sunday. The theif was identified by cctv footage. Howeverwhen they went to his house he had done a runner and his family seemed really distraught with the police turning up on their door.

The hospital today reimbursed me my money saying they will recover from his parents. I felt this sharp pang of pain in my heart thinking what the family must be going through because of his wrong doing. Apparently his mum was crying loads.
I've come home with a very heavy heart thinking I shouldn't have taken my money back.

Is this normal. I feel terrible😢

It's normal to feel the way you do, you're human and you can see that through no fault of your own other people have suffered.

It's strange that the family have been made to reimburse you, technically it should be the responsibility of the hospital for employing him. Even then though, you'd be taking money back from the 'wrong' place so it would cause an uncomfortable feeling.
