Why Do People Lie?

I just don't get it. I caught someone at work lying to me when he didn't really need to do so. I backed him into a corner with the truth and all he had to say was "I dropped the ball" I would have understood. now a big drama is going on at work as he continues to spin the lie.

I just don't understand. But I got vindication and he and our office manager got their asses handed to them.

Karma is a B*tch..
To protect themselves and/or their true feelings. I think it’s based in selfishness.
@akindheart Im glad you have been vindicated by your own hand!!
MrsMONAKanful · 36-40, F
@nonsensiclesnail how is it selfish when you got none else protecting you when you’re protecting yourself from harm
akindheart · 61-69, F
@nonsensiclesnail not the first time he has been caught. now my coworker is having problems with him too. it will all come out.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
I lie all the time

Sometimes it's to hide my true feelings

Sometimes It's to hide the abuse I have been though a child

Sometimes it's just so I can be part of a conversation and want to fit in

Sometimes I lie to be the comedian

I am not justifying my lying, I'm just saying I do it and this time I'm not lying

@HumanEarth And that's honest. ♥️

At work, I think it has to do with feeling important. Like today at work, one of leads just had to mention that the plant manager "told him......" as though he felt it was important to mention that he rubs shoulders with the bug boss. I don't care about that stuff, I'd rather get promotions based on my merits, than kissing a$$. 🙄
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
Truth right there…. I have done this myself.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@HumanEarth

Same, when I was younger I used to think leadership roles were about privilege, now I know better.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@calicuz yeah because that A$$ can change and you have to start all over again. I am with you

Sometimes it’s an innocent excuse but eventually it becomes too big to handle.

BLP11520 · 61-69, M
Some people lie to protect people’s feelings or to shut someone up
akindheart · 61-69, F
@BLP11520 i think there has to be a way to be honest without hurting someone because the truth ALWAYS comes out.
BLP11520 · 61-69, M
@akindheart I know

Inability or unwillingness to deal with the consequences.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@PatKirby bingo! he got in trouble with me 2 yrs ago. he tried to lie his way out of that one too. i forgave and moved on but obviously he hasn't learned his lesson
SW-User
Possible the truth could cost him his job?
akindheart · 61-69, F
@SW-User well it sure might now. the minute he tried to flip it on me and say he texted me, i didn't have the text, i kept backing him into the corner.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
What are the consequences?
akindheart · 61-69, F
@MrBrownstone well i called one of the partners and told him how this manager talked to me. he said "I will take care of this" he messaged the manager and told him that he handled this inappropriately and copied all of the owners on it. I got a quote after all. (the manager told me i was a bad customer and to take my business elsewhere...I have worked at this office for 18 yrs)
It’s hard to sleep sitting

akindheart · 61-69, F
@Starcrossed but when the truth comes out, it will be even more shameful right?
Dez580 · 61-69, M
i avoid lying, much easier just to be truthful, with the added benefit is by not telling lies one doesn't need a great memory either
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Dez580 LOL. the last part made me laugh because yes, you have to remember the lies.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
