I complimented a stranger and it made me feel bad

I was at kmart going to checkout and i saw a girl around my age wearing a T-shirt of a show i really like, i got excited so i wanted to tell her that i liked it (I have bad social anxiety so i never do this) but when i did she didnt say anything and just looked at me with a straight face and slightly nodded, i literally almost started crying and i dont even know why, its just a shirt and a person i have never met in my life and will never see again.
Anyway im never complimenting anyone in kmart again

As a person who'd love to get a compliment like that, I think it was brave what you did, proud of you for that. I think she also had social issues, and she didn't know how to react. Please, don't stop complimenting strangers, it really is an energy boost for people who are having a bad day. Sending you lots of love <333

Could be she has social anxiety too?

But you tried goddammit atleast you tried.
Don't let it worry and bother you. Plus keep complimenting people as not everyone will ignore you..

And maybe its not as bad as you think.

Maybe she did not hear you or was caught of guard.

Keep being kind to people. And maybe you will get compliments aswell.

Also some people do not know what to do in such a situation 🤷🏼‍♀️

Don’t let one bland reaction from someone keep you from doing it again. Maybe they have the same anxiety? Keep spreading the love around. You never know how positively people receive it. 🙂

She was probably just caught off guard don't let it get to you.

She could have also had social anxiety, or been on the spectrum, or just majorly not in the mood to chat that day. Don't take it personally.

Maybe she's shy and socially awkard too... Honestly there are worse things a person could do

Your intent was good... Don't let her bad manners detect from that...

That urge to start crying, it could be because you bravely stepped out of your comfort zone and her lack of reaction made you feel like it wasn't worth pushing yourself to say something.
You did good, whenever that need to compliment strikes you, go with it.
You may make their day without even knowing it.

As yourself this. Would you have done the same thing if it was a guy?

If so, then the response is, "I just mentioned I liked your shirt. Doesn't mean I'm interested in you. My apologies. Have a good one." And then walk away.

If not, then you need to remember that women have guys trying to chat them up all the time and I imagine it gets pretty freaking old pretty quick. Especially for women in relationships. It's an invasion of their privacy in public and is usually driven by an ulterior motive. So how she handled that was probably the result of a whole lot of other dudes that came before you.

You did the right thing, totally innocent creating conversation.
Maybe she was shy and didn't know how to respond quickly??

In this day and age...stranger danger is very real. And to her, you were the stranger. Though your intent was pure, she was just being smart.

You were looking for acceptance from her. You gave her power and she abused it. When possible don't give people the power to abuse you.

Maybe they have just as much anxiety as you have 🤷‍♂️

Thank you all so much, all of you are you are so kind ❤

I love getting compliments, it lights up my day especially if it's a shared interest. Dont let this experience taint any future bravery, maybe she's very shy and didn't know how to take the comment.
