I mostly give people the benefit of the doubt at first. Then give them time to reveal themselves.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@SageWanderer exactly, makes perfect sense to me..

WhiteZebra · F
Kinda, yeah, but usually I’ll give someone a few chances so I can figure out who they are.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@WhiteZebra Agreed l, I think that’s fair, you wait for confirmation.
I put my worst foot forward first. That way, I can only get better and it weeds out the selfish, the entitled, and the self centered who I know will not be worth my time in the long run.

If they like me now, they will love me later. 😁
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@NoThanksLeon definitely sounds like a plan..👍
@Primnproper It has kept me somewhat sane. 😉
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@NoThanksLeon well thats definitely a bonus!
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
Yes.

I work on a survey that produces a cost index. We weight everything initially, the first time we collect it. For subsequent quarters, we just update the costs, but we do not change the weights.

So we put all our weight on first impressions!

🤪
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@JoyfulSilence I guess time will tell then.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Primnproper

And then I will retire!

Yay!
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@JoyfulSilence 🕺🕺🕺
CultOfPersonality · 36-40, M
First impressions can set the tone for years to come
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@CultOfPersonality so very true! 👍
twistedrope · 26-30, M
Depends.

If there is weight in the decisions I need to make about this person, I do have weight in my first impressions.
If there is no weight to my decisions, there is no weight in my first impression. I am a "Free to be you and me" kinda guy when it comes to acquaintanceship.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@twistedrope actually that’s a good point! 👍
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I think the first impression is something to take into count, future impressions will need to be made before you can figure someone out most of the time.
However ,if I see someone being extremely cruel I've already seen enough to know I don't want to see anymore.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Justmeraeagain thats a fair point..
TexChik · F
Absolutely!
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@TexChik 👍
Ferric67 · M
Mixed

But, if only it isn't an extreme impression
Really bad or really good
Because those are hard to navigate from
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Ferric67 good points! 👍
Adogslife · 61-69, M
I do in a lot of instances, more at work than at play. Socially I give someone a fair amount of room before finalizing an opinion.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Adogslife that seems fair enough though.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
I have mixed emotions because I personally know I make horrible first impressions
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@LilPrincess you might not.
I know people often before I meet them. I rarely am wrong.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@PoetryNEmotion fair enough 👍
I do, but I’m also mindful of reserving judgment.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@OlderSometimesWiser that’s great!
for sure, you never get a second chance to make a first impression
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@samueltyler2 many do. 👍
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Primnproper i try not to, but, have to admit i do.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@samueltyler2 I do but I try and hold off on a final conclusion to get a more true idea of who they are.
Yes, unfortunately I do
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@mindlessdrifter it’s not unfortunate but I guess we have to remember people can be nervous, feel awkward so you may not be getting their authentic self.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I think they are important. It sets the tone for the rest of your interactions.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@iamonfire696 fair point..
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Primnproper of course one can always redeem themselves unless that first impression was truly terrible.
