You've never been to Barstow.

Yes it sure can be. I’ve known some who have done that.
All the time. Especially if and when they can afford to live someplace nicer.🤷🏾♀
if i lived in a place that felt unwelcoming or that was filled with people i felt were not the sort i want to be around i absolutely would move and have. Why force yourself into a situation you don't want to be in if you don't absolutely have to be there?

Yes it's very true. I never returned to my hometown. Not due to the politics. It's because the people there, especially in my neighborhood were rude, impolite and completely disrespectful. Even the kids I grew up around were obnoxious, mean, and inconsiderate to others.
WanderingHelplessly · 51-55, M
That seems logical to me
popmol · 26-30, M
they do, my cousin was born in the same town but he doesn't want to return ever due to the crowd, the town is mostly right wing to an extreme degree and even when he wouldn't be the person they are against he doesn't feel comfortable.
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
Sounds like a good reason.
Except she probably will find people she also does not like, in her new town. 😁

Damn right especially if they are devaluing the neighborhood and turning it ghetto. I did it. And fortunately for the neighborhood the trouble makers eventually got evicted and the place was saved from becoming an armpit
Not usually....

Um that's historically one of the BIGGEST reasons why people move lol.
I left the southern US for that reason. I hated being surrounded by churches and Republicans.

Yes. That's one of the major reasons for moving somewhere else.

@jshm2 What if all other factors are convenient??
Sure, living around people you don’t like can be very uncomfortable.
Spacesbetweenus · 31-35, F
@OlderSometimesWiser but when everything else is just fine ,isn’t it some rash decision?
@Spacesbetweenus Everything can’t be just fine when you’re surrounded by people you don’t like.
For example, I’m Jewish. If I live in an area where there’s a lot of anti-semitism, I’m getting the heck out of there. Same if there are very vocal Trump supporters. I find the set of values necessary to support a morally bankrupt malignant narcissist to be abhorrent.
There has to be a sense of ease and comfort about where you live and the people who surround you as you go about your everyday life.

Yeah. If every crowd you encounter in your town makes you feel unwelcome or just can't blossom into a real friendship or a dependable relationship, there is really no reason to stay.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
Some do. People that don't have bonds there.

I once had a colleague who told people loudly and often that she was leaving town because it was “too white”.
Suffice to say nothing went in her leaving collection. And her leaving party was a meal for just one.
