I learned a long time ago to never set high expectations for anyone, you'll spend a lot less time being disappointed/let down. I prefer to start low and be surprised by their effort than start high and be annoyed by it...🤔
Also, try to avoid putting yourself in a position where your success/accomplishment is reliant on someone elses...

@wildbill83 I do try not to have expectations, but once in a while it still gets me. 🤷🏼♀
PatKirby · M
Ever since I've come to the realization that I cannot control what other people do, think or believe, my expectations have adjusted themselves quite nicely. In other words, it's no longer a priority, people have to make their own mistakes. Life is too short to worry about the small fry.
If pressed I remind myself it's not my duty to convince them of something - it's my duty to tell them. They have to take the football from there into the end zone by themselves. Try it, you'll sleep better.

@PatKirby I never worry if anyone takes my advice or not. Like you - I see it as being in their court after that, to do as they wish. What gets me are those who disappoint on a deeper emotional level. There are times I honestly can't get passed the unbelievable....and I don't know if I should actually call it cruelty, a lack of respect, or simply stupidity - but in any case, I am working on it. It's the best I can do.

@LadyBronte
I know exactly where you're coming from due to a thirty year friendship going south due to his inability and immaturity to deal properly with a family member's death and so began treats others poorly and disrespectfully without remorse. No small issue he still owes me money and conveniently forgot about it. I personally discovered the reason why over the years his family members treated him the way they did. C'est la vie.
Sounds like you're well prepared and have seen some bumpy rodeos in the past. Your zen is strong. All I can say is patience and communication are key.

@PatKirby I'm sorry about your former friend. That can be a rocky road to traverse. Probably best to write off what he owes you - chances are nothing you say will make a difference.
Yeah, I've seen enough of those bumpy rodeos to last me a life time. Some days my zen is strong. Other days, I can't even spell zen. 😆

@Just4fun I do know what you mean.

@LadyBronte I don’t like it deep down but I continue to be reminded it is the best option
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Just4fun I understand that as well.

@Justmeraeagain Thanks. I've seen that and most of the time that's my attitude. But a few people have honestly slayed me to the point all I can do is wonder if I ever knew them at all
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@LadyBronte We still feel what we feel
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Justmeraeagain Unfortunately we do. Those pesky feelings cause too much trouble for me to willing accept or be open to them anymore. 🤷🏼♀

I am forever disappointed by people and their behaviors, beliefs and ideologies. I won't lower my expectations though. They know better and know to be better.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@FoxyGoddess I realize that about some, but I have grown cynical the majority will ever be better.

Yes
But I’m sure the feelings been mutual from someone at some point which I’m not above leaning from.
It’s the relentless resentment that I can’t nor will ever relate to.
That and people who entrap others who love them unconditionally.
That is just insidious bs I want zero part.
Only Losers play that way.
I play fair.

@BlobbyMcBlobface Sad we feel that way.

@LadyBronte Very and I'm glad I'm not the only one, without wishing you the displeasure of course

@Adogslife But that seems to be true in the majority of places.

@LadyBronte Yes, you’re correct. I was just trying to not be 100% cynical 😂
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Adogslife Well, never fear. I'll take up the slack. I am unabashed in showing my cynicism these days. 😂

Expect nothing and you won't be disappointed.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@hunkalove I've had pretty low expectations for years and somehow people still managed to fall below. These days I rarely associate with anyone and while "no expectations" is the only way to be, I still get caught from time to time, hoping for more.
