Is sex and gender really different?

I always thought they were the same.
Everything is confusing these days. I'm a dumbass bigot transphobe according to everything.
Im sorry.
The more I try to learn the more confused I feel.
I'm open to everyone's perspective, but the gender spectrum just dosent make sense in my brain...i don't mean to sounds ignorant and hateful it's just.... True.

Sex is the physiological and biochemical features that differentiate male, female, and intersex people. Gender is the set of social and psychological characteristics that are not intrinsic to human biology, but that are imperfectly linked to sex by social factors. Most people who are biologically male fit the social roles and mindsets corresponding with the male gender, which is what makes them men. Most people who are biologically female fit the social roles and mindsets corresponding with the female gender, which is what makes them women. These people are said to be cisgender.

A small minority of people, however, fit the social roles and mindsets of the gender which is opposite to their sex, and those people are said to be transgender. And yet a smaller minority of people fit neither the social roles and mindsets of males nor females; or fit both in relatively even proportions. These people are said to be non-binary.

There is a movement afoot to get people to doubt themselves, forget the past and history, weaken you while transitioning with confusion, then replace the future with something else entirely. It's a form of gas lighting intended to cowardly degrade culture and eventually you.

Thoroughly enjoyed how it pisses you off. Thanks, this made my day!

@SW-User Delusional and stupid.
JestAJester · 31-35, M
Let me put it to you this way. People who believe in gender and that you can identify as whatever you want, their consciousness is not based in reality or logic. It's a social construct that has taken hold of western civilization. Your mind can't comprehend because its utter lunacy and nonsense. Like the men who think they are women and vice versa. You cannot simply will something to be true. You're not being hateful, not at all. They're trying to sell you on nonsensical hogwash as if it is rooted in truth. You're understandably confused

P.S. I'm not apologizing for speaking out against this insanity

The “gender thing” has been pushed on us for years now, its everywhere.
Have you ever asked why? I mean it wasn’t like that when I was a kid, now it’s everywhere.
The guys pushing this, want one gender, don’t want you to populate, want to make having sex with kids normal.
This is being pushed in primary schools,
4 year olds being allowed to have sex changes! It’s ridiculous.

They are pushing it massively!

Bunch of pedophiles!

It’s utter bollocks!

I don’t agree with it either. I particularly despise the choice to undergo surgery. I don’t know what they go through, I can’t fathom it. Hating yourself for the way you developed doesn’t make sense to me.
I think it doesn't matter so much how you feel. How you behave is the key.

I'm pretty confused, too. I don't think I'm qualified to tell others how THEY should feel, so I mostly take their word for it.
SW-User
Yes. Sex is what you are biologically, and gender is whether you identify as that.

Some people don't, because they feel that they were born in the wrong body. It's okay for them to feel that way if it's really genuine and a longstanding issue, and if there is a pattern of this having a very negative impact on their wellbeing they should be able to become the sex they feel they are. However, this doesn't change the fact that they never really will be that sex because it's simply not the way they were born. I'm willing to refer to them as the opposite sex if that's what they want and are presenting as, but there is no escaping the reality that fundamentally they will never be that sex for very basic biological reasons.

There's wider implications to this as well, and they pertain to how the left are exploiting this issue and using it to further an agenda. Also, some people are causing children to have confusion about their gender and as a consequence, their sex. This is dangerous and harmful.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@SW-User If I replace the word identify with pretend what is the difference?
SW-User
@MrBrownstone Some of the difference lies in perception I suppose. When people pretend, they usually know they're pretending and are aware it's a passing phase that doesn't have much meaning or significance to them. Some trans people on the other hand really do believe and see themselves as being the opposite sex. Then frustration arises which is why they feel the need to transition. I don't think it's a problem, but don't think it should be normalized either. It should be accepted but not embraced, and I don't think there should be this constant emphasis on them that we're getting from mainstream media.

It is the same. There are only two. There is nothing to learn, liberal genders exist only in the mind of liberals.
Torsten · 36-40, M
No. It is what some these days try and claim to justify their warped views
DrSunnyTheSkeptic · 26-30, M
As far as I understand sex refers to the physical and genetic characteristics that define a person as a male or a female. Back in the day sex and gender used to be synonymous, but nowadays gender is understood as the psychological way a person see themselves, which in majority of people matches their biological sex. There is a minority of people for which gender and sex do not match, those are trans people and they suffer something called gender dysphoria which means their inside and outside image do not match.

Then again, some people go too far ahead in their nonsense and think that intersex people or those who suffer from chromosome anomalies like Turner's or Klinefelter's syndrome are new genders, which isn't true, those are just people who suffer from genetic anomalies.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Yes. I think so.

I grew up with just brothers and what made girls girls was longer hair and that they usually wore dresses and had a softer disposition and were referenced in terms of prettiness and cutes. I realized that they would one day grow up to be mothers, and somehow understood that storks knew when girls and boys married. Otherwise I didn't know, or care if they were otherwise different. or what sex was about. So my awareness and definition of gender came a while before my awareness of sex.

It's all bullshit.
SW-User
There is so much bullshit thrown around it boggles the mind
SW-User
It's actually very simple.
@SW-User is it though?
SW-User
@PinkNailPolish89 yes, black and white
