Should SW put our birth dates (month and day) on our profile?

Poll - Total Votes: 32
Yes. Have the option to show the month and day of your birth on your profile.
No. I don't want to have anyone celebrate me in any way.

Should it be an option to have SW put (publish) our birth date on our profiles (month and day)? I think it would be an awesome idea to be able to wish one another happy birthday!

You could of course opt out of it being published.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I wouldn't want to post my birthday to anyone but people in my circle.
Ontheroad · M
@Starcrossed that's another good idea... maybe limit it to those who you follow and who follow you back. I like that idea too.
@Starcrossed happy birthday 🥳
SW-User
I once suggested to admins to show a small birthday cake icon (🎂) on people's profile when it's their birthday (optional setting — only for those who want to) but they kinda brushed off said suggestion, lol
SW-User
I believe that's pretty simple for them bc I've seen it on old wacky websites haha
But yeah your idea is nice too 👍🏽
@Ontheroad
@SW-User that's a cool idea
TheOrionbeltseeker · 36-40, M
@SW-User I am supporting in favour of your idea.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
I wouldn’t want to. I prefer hiding on my bday
Ontheroad · M
@AlchemyFox okay, but then you deprive us of the joy of sending our best wishes and luv your way. It would of course and should of course be your option.
metaldog · 51-55
that's a tremendous idea....our bank account details too 😆

Ontheroad · M
@SW-User oh just stop it! We adore you and want to tell you we do, especially on your b'day! 😁
SW-User
@Ontheroad Gramps! What have I told you about simping on SW ?🤫
Ontheroad · M
@SW-User simping, simping, simping, simping, simping, simping, simping, simping, simping, simping, simping, simping!

For those of you concerned about keeping your personal information secret, I get it, I do and I'm not judging you for trying to guard your data/personal information. However, I try to put things into perspective, by understanding the likelihood of that being possible.

In the last 10 years alone over 10 billion people have ahd their personal data/information leaked by companies and branches of governments all across the globe. That's not the full extent and there are many breaches never reported or even known about.

That is 10 times the number of every living man, woman and child in Europe, the USA and Australia combined.

The reality of the digital world is that my data (and yours) is already out there and can be had rather easily by anyone with nefarious intent.
I prefer the Reddit style Cake day better. Rather than celebrating actual birthdays - how about celebrating people's joining date???

That way, their actual birth date is private for privacy reasons - yet you still have an annual special date that you can celebrate with them.
MoonlightLullaby · 41-45, F
Nah. Only the people in my circle get that info, but they celebrate it with me privately. I'm not fond of announcing it because of the attention it would bring.
Ontheroad · M
@MoonlightLullaby yep, I can see that as being a good way to go... starcrossed suggested the same thing.
MoonlightLullaby · 41-45, F
@Ontheroad Great thinking though. Perhaps it can be an option for those willing to participate
MasterLee · 56-60, M
So many lie about it though.
Ontheroad · M
@MasterLee not sure that would be true if they didn't have to add the year.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Nope. It’s personal info and the more of that we post online the easier it is for stalkers to identify and possibly track a person.
Ontheroad · M
@cherokeepatti I get that some are nervous about personal security... I'm not one of them, but they would have the ability to opt out.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I don't even know if I put the right one there. Possibly not. 🤔
Confined · 56-60, M
Easy identity theft if a theif knows your birthday.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Confined they have to match it to a real name, and by the time they have that they can just look up public records.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
No too much personal identification
Convivial · 26-30, F
Yes, let's help with identity theft...
Piper · 61-69, F
That would be fine, as long as we could opt out. I've been trying to figure out how to do that on FB for years, and haven't yet succeeded. I very rarely visit that site anyway, and I don't want anyone feeling 'obligated' to wish me a Happy Birthday.
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
There can be an option I think but I don’t think I’d display it or like only for certain people

But people lie on here too so idk what adding the birth date would do
Ontheroad · M
@ImRileyTheDog definitely be optional and I don't think people would lie about just the month and day.
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
@Ontheroad You’d be surprised, such a small and dumb thing to lie about
Scribbles · 36-40, F
I think it's fine as an option. Personally, I'd immediately opt out. It's private info, and I don't like my birthday. I choose to celebrate it with very very few people in my life anyway
I don't want to put my birthday on any site.

But I would love to wish people if they had it.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
You can put it in your profile. Or make it part of your username as a friend of mine does.
SW-User
I don't want that.....if I want someone to know, I'll tell them.
Make it an option for those who finds this fun. I'd pass it down myself.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I would not put my real birth date
That's compromising privacy
DDonde · 31-35, M
Optional setting defaulted to off, why not?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
You can always drop it into about me. Active people have it betrayed every few years when their age category jumps... and then we feel old.
No, its private information.

And users would fake it anyway .
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
That's a nice idea for those who want it, but I reckon the vast majority would choose to keep it private.
Also, you should move this to the Similar Worlds Suggestions group.
Ontheroad · M
@FeetAreFantastic thanks! I didn't know there was a suggestions group, but I do now and have moved it.
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
I think that's a good idea, rather than age groups. I don't care who knows I'm 47, but I'm tired of people assuming I'm already 50.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I just made a post that is was my birthday 🤣
Ontheroad · M
@iamonfire696 I don't see it - is it today?
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Ontheroad haha no, it was October 5th when I turned 40 😭. Because there’s no option on your profile to add it, I just made my own post telling people 🤣
Lilnonames · F
Got enough bull shit here already

@Ididntevenknowhewassick that's cool, but I am curious... would you use it to wish others a happy b'day?
