This place

Is this an exclusive club where there's only one type of person that is allowed to say anything or is this a discussion group site? When one stays curteous then only there's indeed discussion possible. When I get into a situation when there's no civility left, like people starting to become abusive verbally and intellectually, then I leave the discussion. When someone tells me that I'm stalking them, well, I ask them to leave my postings alone and I'll do the same to them. How can one actually start off a discussion when there's no possible respect in the first place? No, I'm not having that either. Not blocking nor ignoring. Just doing what I do in the real world. Treating people with respect and whenever needed backing off. So I guess that my question remains. What sort of site is this?

The trouble is the INTERNET is creating social norms, by people pressing ‘like’.

@Quimliqer No, I mean simply that I comment to a third person and another comments back to me or over me. Then I prove them wrong by pointing to a past posting of their own. He told me that I was stalking him then. I took it as humor, but no, he was serious. Actually told me to seek help. For what? Proving him wrong? A discussion group isn't counseling and it needs respect of the other, but in a way that not negates the orginal posting or comment when it's actually serious from the start with. Sorry, I'm a bit wound up :-)

This place is a mixture of every kind of people and therefore posts … I used to like it better before because it was more respectful and friendly … nowadays, I find it more like very unfriendly and aggressive … I never liked blocking users in here but recently blocking feels like a blessing, for which I’m grateful …

It's difficult to have genuine discussions and connections here. The ones I have are with friends I met on a previous site who joined here. I wouldn't take it personally. Just block or mute and move forward.

@val70 I don’t think blocking creates a tidal wave, necessarily. It’s a must online sometimes. Life is too short to read the rants of delusional people or of those who only want to be rude, nasty, keyboard warriors.

@ChampagneOnIce No, it isn't but I wanted to get into reading the discussions and not the sort kindergarden stuff that I saw about someone they actually blocked beforehand. It seems that some are carving up a whole territory for themselves. Weird :-)

It depends on who you're around and the situation (s). For me, my blocks are precious and my stay here is more enjoyable without them. I [i]usually[/i] shy away from shallow content, and like posts with substance. I also like to surround myself with those who are compassionate and understanding. Ones who can joke and not get offended. I watch people carefully and go with my intuition after being too trusting in the past. Self awareness is important too. That's what this place is for me. So in a nutshell, I've made it my own safe space.🧩

@MoonlightLullaby Yes, I hear you too. I'm about the most asocial of people. That explains a lot too, I guess. I like both the shallow and the substance, but when I've been called stupid for being or stating something the beast in me comes out too. I try to control my temper. Doing that very well at times. But you're right and sound like you do have a firmer grip on things here than me. Just don't like this blocking culture either. I've seen posts of people laughing at others who can't see what they're posting any more. Disgusting, well, that was what I felt even if it wasn't about me :-) reminds me of what a former colleague told me last weekend. When people do that one can't trust them any more

@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy Yes, I've been told that already. Perhaps it's because I like to protect my precious thoughts written down on here. I like a discussion but no-one likes to be either insulted, mocked or even questioned to his or her level of intelligence. It's a double edge sword. I like to hear different opinions but I thought that showing respect was still a going thing in today's society. I was told something like "on your way professor" which I took with grace, but being told that I'm a stalker on here was a bit too much. Even for me :-)

@SW-User Yes, I know. I'm a bit less anxious now. It gets to me. Just like out right censorship would do to me. Perhaps the media aren't virgins any more but I still like them to be trueful to what they should be doing. Inform and start off thinking :-) sorry, I do think too much

People use this place in a lot of different ways. I've allowed my filters to gradually really narrow what I see on it. Most of the time people don't engage in serious discussion respectfully so I don't expect much on that front. My question on what sauce people prefer with their fries was a hit though 🙂

People are never what they seem, and online it's easy to be something or nothing, jump to conclusions, be rude and scream opinions as though there is no consequence for poor actions. Of course this is just my opinion.

@Morrigan Sure, I do understand that the mask is there. At times there are obvious reasons. Like someone is trying to get along on here in already sparse anonymity in today's society. I saw someone posting pictures on here of places that I do frequent and it frightened me a lot. Perhaps it's only anxiety? But I'm moving away from your point. How about we turn your premiss around? That they are already what they seem to be? Not wanting anyone telling them they're perhaps wrong, let along proving that. I can be rude too. But I've never called someone a stalker. I did report some for persecuting others on here, even being insulting to whole groups. Well, I don't like that :-)

@val70 i feel how upset you are by this most recent interaction. I hope you remember one persons view of you is not the reality. Just their opinion based on insufficient information not fact. In fact there is someone on this post who blocked me due to jumping to conclusions then spread those conclusion causing a chain reaction of blocking by others. Yet i am sure others find her lovely. Remember those who really see you are the important ones.

@Morrigan I know what you mean about the whole blocking movement. The first time that I got blocked I was in shock. It was over gay priests inside the Church of England. Just for that I got blocked and it's indeed a made decision already. Perhaps your blocker doesn't want to face reality either. Like you indicated, nothing to do with the person being blocked as such. The trouble I had this afternoon that I gave this individual a second chance after trying to overwhelm my own comment today too, but after proving my point to be right he called me a stalker because I showed him one of his own previous comments to contradict him
