We Don’t Need This

Dear @Nuno, @Andrew,

Please get rid of the profile images and usernames that appear at the top of our feed.

I’m guessing others have already suggested the same thing and I want to add my voice to theirs.

I fail to see what purpose it serves to have this display of our presence here. Many of us have chosen to not have our green light enabled and this newer feature reduces the effectiveness of turning the light off.

At the very least, could we have the choice to opt-out of this, just as we do with the green light? I think that’s a reasonable compromise.

Thanks for all the effort you put into making SW a better place. I mean that sincerely, even if I don’t always agree with the changes that are implemented here.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
I don't think they understand or care.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Doomflower I'll be interested to see if they even reply to this.
Lilnonames · F
@Doomflower if u log out and read s w intro it talks about how they listen to members and fix it how they want.. Liers

I wanted it removed as soon as they implemented it. It just gives me anxiety. Whats the use of being anonymous and on the site. I might as well just keep my green light lit for everyone!! Thats my take!!
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@SW-User Same. I've objected to it all along. My impression is that no one here likes it.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Rutterman I agree fully.
SW-User
@Rutterman absolutely. Everyone ive talked to hasnt been happy with it! Its distracting. Plus just a few clicks and you can see who is on. Put the old way back!!
I propose a slight change if they choose to keep that profile banner….

Like they did with our Gifts section, they could move it to the bottom of the page.

Personally, I hate being in the limelight on an anonymous site. It kinda makes it less anonymous and more in-your-face….which is why I run away from my appreciation posts too. Wish we could hide it or somethin’
😂🤭 Well said.

You mean you could see this iPhone emoji? 😻

@Rutterman
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Vivaci Yes, obviously. 😎
@Rutterman Hot damn… 😏
Piper · 61-69, F
I couldn't agree more, with your respectfully worded request to the administrators. For sure at the very least, we should have the choice of appearing there or not.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Piper You got it: Respectfully worded request to the Admins.

I've made a similar post to Andrew a few days ago but he never answered...

Let's see if the Admins will react to Rutterman's post. I hope that very much....
I have already seen a dead person in that strip. So it's not even active users. Just a random collection of people you may have saw at one time in 1950.
Selah ·
@canusernamebemyusername I know. Its creepy.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@canusernamebemyusername I'm hearing the same thing from others. There's no good reason to display users who aren't even alive now.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
True words.

I have written already a few weeks a similar post like yours... They didn't even answer. 😒

The worst thing for me is that the list in the top shows even profiles, where I know 💯 %, that this user died...

Every time I have to look at his profile picture I get incredible sad.

This should not be the sense of SW...
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Rutterman The Admins didn't react to my post, and it seems they don't react to your post neither. 😒
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Loretta78 They haven't responded to this one so far, and judging from your experience, it doesn't look like they ever will.

If they don't want to hear our suggestions, they should eliminate this group (Similar Worlds Suggestions), which is a group that they created.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Rutterman Once more I have to agree with you.
HannahSky · F
I have to agree. Kinda invades privacy that you're online if you choose to keep green light off.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
I have gotten a lot of profile views since they added it 😳 it seriously creeps me out
Lilymoon · F
Yeah I agree. It's stupid and awkward. 🤦‍♀️
SW-User
@Lilymoon I like it
Lilymoon · F
@SW-User do I have to look at your blueberries every day? Sheesh. Hahaha
SW-User
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Rutterman There's indeed no excuse for it.

And there' appears also regularly the profile pictures from users who were not more on since years which I also know for 💯 % sure.

You know what I think?
This list on wthe top doesn't show who's online and who isn't. This list shows random users, where you had contact to since you are ob on SW...

However: This list is the biggest nonsense I've ever seen here and should be removed from the Admins immediately. Or - as you said it in your post - that we have the option to click it aeay that we don't need to see it.
MartinII · 70-79, M
Perhaps I’m missing something, but I don’t follow the objection. The banner at the top of the feed contains exactly the same information as appears if you click on “Social” and then on “People I follow”. In both cases the only names that appear are those of people whose green light is, or has been, on, with of course their own chosen username and avatar. If your green light isn’t or hasn’t been on, you won’t be there. So there is no threat to anonymity, and indeed nothing new at all - just information in a different place. And I like it, as do others who commented when it was first introduced.

This is probably the first time I have ever said anything in support of the management, but there it is!
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@MartinII Okay, having the banner works well for you. I have a feeling it’s here to stay (with no opt-out), which is unfortunate from my perspective. The admins undoubtedly have their reasons for it, though they haven’t and probably never will disclose them.

I should state that I have never enabled my green light. I know that my username/profile pic appears on other people’s banners because I’ve seen it via screenshots on posts by a couple of users here. One of the posts had to do with a question about a person (not me) who appeared on their banner.

It would be great if we could opt-out of appearing in people’s banners. I can’t see any problem with others making a different choice than I would make.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Rutterman I agree FULLY with your words. 👍
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Rutterman Agreed. One footnote. Although my banner has so far only included people who are supposed to be there, so to speak, it doesn’t always include all of them. I noticed yesterday that several people whom I follow, and were shown in Social with their green lights on, hadn’t made it to the banner. If the right people can be omitted like that, it’s hardly surprising that the wrong people are sometimes included. So whatever our preferences, I think we can all agree that it isn’t working perfectly at the moment!
Dusty101 · F
I just thought it is my friends list above, not people who have been online.. I know I'm not the brightest crayon in the box, however there is nobody who isn't my friend there, which is about 12!🤣
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Dusty101 I'm mostly seeing friends, but I've occasionally seen someone who isn't. And some are seeing people (perhaps friends) who are now deceased. But my main objection to this new change is appearing in other people's banners, giving the impression that I'm online when maybe I'm not, or maybe I am but don't necessarily want to have that advertised.

It would be good if the admins could at least explain how the banner works as there is a lot of confusion about it.
Dusty101 · F
@Rutterman yes, I totally agree with you! Why admin don't explain this is a mystery! 🍀🤗
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
There's lots of stuff here we don't need. It's rather like the scientists in Stranger Things, They have their reasons, even if we don't share their motivations. It's pretty much that.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Rutterman I'll die on the hill of that it belongs on Reddit and needlessly fosters ill feelings.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Lilnonames Oh...very interesting.
Lilnonames · F
@Rutterman cause she goes there and they have something similar on top like that
Amen!!

Change is good but not all changes are for better...

We are facing too msny changes (some bad ones) too quickly and that is discomforting... 🤗🤗
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Soossie Yes, totally agree. Frequent change can be disorienting and discomforting and drive people crazy.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Loretta78 I’m sorry, but in my case the two lists are identical, except that the list under “Social” is longer. My banner shows 15 names, then if you click on “more names” you are redirected to “Social”, where you will find the same 15 names, then more. Maybe yours is different?

As to the mysterious appearance of deceased members, it’s obviously regrettable, but there is an easy way to avoid seeing them - stop following them.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@MartinII This way is not that easy as you think: In generally I don't follow ANYBODY here (except one person), and I also don't allow anybody to follow me.

It really seems that we have two different kinds of list... Why ever... 🤷‍♀️
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Loretta78 Yes, that does seem to be the case. Very odd. My assumption is that if I were to “unfollow “ everyone I currently follow, there would be no names in my banner. But I’m not going to experiment!
Gusman · 61-69, M
It seems like I have upset them in the proper way, saying I will not be renewing my VIP because of all the unwanted changes.
I have never appeared on the banner list. Gusman done gone did himself good
Tf! Your doc is crazy…let the stitches heal first…you just got a surgery yday dammit! 🤨 @Gusman
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Vivaci There are no visible stitches. Slowly slowly
Drink turmeric milk with little black pepper…it’ll help internal healing n inflammation. 😕@Gusman
Driver2 · M
Yes good idea
Agreed. That row of icons is a waste of valuable screen space.
SW-User
I actually don't mind it
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@SW-User That's good because I have a feeling it's here to stay.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M

Remember that cartoon where the WB animators were messing with Daffy Duck for the entire cartoon and at the end they reveal that Bugs Bunny is the artist, saying "Ain't I a stinker?". That's what we're dealing with here.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@uncalled4 Oh yeah, I saw and replied to that post. You were the first one I heard mention that dead people's profiles were appearing on top of the feed.

This definitely is some stinky stuff.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Rutterman I can accept that SW and I differ on some features, but this is just some next level of fu**ed up that I find challenging to understand. At least they used to beat their chests and brag about the features before. This one just appeared like a zit. Ah, why not just let 'em blurt at this point?
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
I dont really care the site is for free unless you opt for VIP, they could if you opt not wanting to show you are online remove your profile from the top bar.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Justenjoyit How do we remove our profile from the top bar? Wasn't aware this was possible.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
They don’t care what we think. Good try though.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@iamonfire696 Yeah, I'll be surprised if they even respond to this.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Rutterman they won’t. I have asked them many questions and they ignore me. If it doesn’t fit into their box they don’t care.
Lilnonames · F
Yup I posted about it to like the feed they don't care it's for the iobix people when they come. If u have vip u go here and u can see who's online. Site got shittier and shittier with each new asinine update.
empanadas · 31-35, M
Tbh I think they are doing this to be more sellable to another company
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@empanadas Wouldn't surprise me. I suspect there is a financial motive for doing this.
