Telegram, wait...what?

Telegram being a Russian company but based in Germany does certainly not have my endorsement when it comes to security and privacy. Mr. Putin must certainly have pressured this company to provide a backdoor for spying on the messaging exchange.

This is definitely not a company I would fee safe entrusting my confidential messaging.

In terms of privacy, Telegram is safer than this website and most US based apps.

And that does mean attracting too many people who have reasons to avoid monitoring, including illegal activities.

I use it regularly because it is hard to ban and censor. In some countries, lot of apps get shut/ blacklisted by the govs for all sorts of reasons.

Nah seriously I know nothing about the app TBH. I had a friend once ask me if I wanted to keep in contact with them using it though and I was sat there thinking 'why would anyone wanna telegraph me using morse code?'🤯 Yeah took me a while to click on what it actually was, LOLZ!!!😅

Works very well, you can set your messages/pictures to self destruct if you wish! Especially hand for pictures, no screen shots!

It is a good app for chatting. Also nice you can share photos and have them disappear after a set amount of time.

It's probably always used for illegal things, but where some people live, just criticism of their government may be illegal.

The difficult part is that the same tools that let journalists exfiltrate info about genocides can be used to relay abusive images. Or setup drug deals. Or coordinate riots.

It all turns into a mess quickly.

Never heard of Telegraph before seeing this post yesterday, then last night what do I see on the news? France has arrested one of the sites owners on a charge of failing to try and stop criminal activities on the site.

I just heard of it for the first time yesterday. No idea what it is or how it works.

The app is used by the the Pro-Ukrainian OSINT community alot. I don't get much use of it since I just look for misisng people.

Telegram is a scammers paradise... Yeah, scammers use it for scamming people.

i started using it back in 2021. my brother, sister and I used it to keep in touch with each other when my mother was passing away. i was in toronto canada getting my mother treatment for her illness while my brother and sister were home in NY state. we traded messages and documents related to my mothers treatment and stay on top of the latest outlook on my mothers health. i've continued using it for my business and keep in contact with my network and peers. it's a great app for my uses. i use telegram and imsg only.

I recently had a friend of mine that's a local cop where I currently live tell me that telegram is a popular platform for pedos to trade the most heinous of all pornographies, that the feds, state, county, and local, law enforcement agencies are working overtime to try and get them to meet and greet to arrest them, that this past year there has been a severe increase in such activity that the Zoomers outnumber the other generations combined, according to my friend.
