Teams replaced Skype

I used to do a lot of screen sharing with my friend on Skype, that is now limited to 1 hour per call if you are in a group. So one on one screen sharing call on Teams is fine, but 3 or more people and the free version limits you to one hour per call, then it ends and you need to start a new call.

Only problem, it's Microsoft, and I've been trying to get away from using Microsoft products. Is why I moved to Linux mint.

Yes. At work. We all use Windows at Teams is another MS product.

Yet we really only use it for video meetings since some people are remote. It all started during the pandemic when we were all remote.

They prefer we use e-mail for written stuff since there is a better record. They discourage chat, so much so that our chats are automatically deleted after 24 hours.

Teams is an o365 component and most orgs that have adopted the full o365 suite require collaboration via Teams. It's better than video conferencing which I completely hate.

Skype never appealed to me and it's a bit like Whatsapp.

We used to use 'Teams' when I was at work. For online family meetings now we use 'Zoom'

I've used it. It's a little more awkward than Skype but works well enough.

We use teams at work. It’s better than driving in anyway. I have never used it for personal stuff.

I did a Zoom call recently and felt like Fred Flintstone using it.

Microsoft officially shut Skype down on May 5, 2025. They have been trying to shut it down, not to long after they bought it from a European company :-)

Microsoft Teams is free.

Only for work

I use it for business meetings.

It’s Teams…it has a bit more of a corporate focus

Teams is way more advanced than Skype.
