Why is it that ...

You can chat and talk to people and know that for whatever reason you will probably not even ever meet one another but once the conversation comes to something superficial... like weight or appearance you can immediately feel a shift in how the conversation goes. Why do you have to be a pretty person to have an online friend?

Does everyone think the potential for a partner is in every person you talk to? That seems absurd and impractical.

"Why do you have to be a pretty person to have an online friend?" very well phrased.
I miss the days when people could just chat and get to know one another, there was no need to show a photo ID, personal resume and social securty number before the conversation goes any further.

as for the potential partner, it is absurd I completely agree.

I’m not here looking for a partner or to be one so I connect on personality, I have no interest in their photos.

I like the superficial chat. I find that once the original subject of the conversation has run it's course, people generally stop messaging. I have my foibles but I am an intelligent guy and I can chat about many different things. That's the reason I joined this site in the first place. I already have a partner. I am looking for adult conversation with the outside world.

i feel a shift when i am having difficulties and i tell a person i think on here is a friend only to find out they are on here to play. and stop speaking. i am ok with that. you see their true colors.
paulisretired · 51-55, M
@akindheart Friends are hard to come by especially when you are down, That's when you let your guard down. It's amazing to me how a lot of people don't get that human nature is so visible, like you said "you see their true colors".
akindheart · 61-69, F
@paulisretired it is a sign of their character. of course my rough times pass and i let the "friendship" go. because they are not friends...at all.

You are right, it is absurd and impractical, but that seems to be the way relationships, even casual, are heading these days.
Friendlyman64 · 56-60, M
Actually I don’t agree with your point of view real friends will never think or act this way

You are right, but it's common enough that it almost seems to be ingrained, to the genetic level.

I would have to agree with you... it is absurd, but humans.
Convivial · 26-30, F
Agreed... You can enjoy the chat for enjoyments sake
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Convivial Yeah, a conversation is all it is. It's the conversation that counts. Nothing else matters.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
I’ve never experienced this
SapphireSoul · 41-45, F
@Flenflyys considering your profile picture I can imagine why.

Just because someone may be attractive doesn’t mean they’re judgemental. Getting along with others has little to do with beauty.
paulisretired · 51-55, M
No, not everyone thinks that.
TheLordOfHell · 41-45
Based on personal experience, I'd rather keep a good 99 percent of y'all at arm's length anyway, so chatting online is for the best!
This is not a dating site, but some people are still always on the "hunt". 🙄
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
Because most people are shallow, always have been and always will be
paulisretired · 51-55, M
@Moneyonmymind Shallow is a step below 'basic human nature'. When some people take advantage of human nature then they become shallow. Just have your eyes open and see that. Not everyone is that way so steer your life to the way that you are and want.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@paulisretired I didn’t say everyone? I said most people
paulisretired · 51-55, M
@Moneyonmymind True, I didn't mean to be all inclusive.
