Nina's Blog - Monday 19th August 2024

Finally notified my friend in France of my arrival day and time. And I've decided how I'm going to present myself. @SW-User might be a little disappointed in me but I'm going to put on a pair of shorts, take off my bra and lipstick. The nail varnish can stay, I think.

My reasoning is that at each little step i take out of the closet that my children should be the first to know.

Today's walk was down to Towan Beach where I saw Sax Berlin drawing in the sand and took pictures before setting of toward Pentire. I took pictures of buildings along the way. I had tea and an orange and pecan polenta cake in the Fern Pit cafe above the River Gannel.

While sitting in the cafe I noticed the vinegar bottle, very posh vinegar to put on your chips

After my tea and cake I walked down the winding path to the river and walked across the little bridge to the other side. When the tide is high there is a ferry.

Here's the view from the other side looking back toward the cafe (the rectangular building on the left at the top):

Here's a better view of the bridge, it is presumably underwater at high tide

Once across the river, on the Crantock side, I walked over the sands and up to the footpath to take a more panoramic picture

I walked along the path up river for a few hundred metres until I came to a place where I could get down to river level again. The Gannel is fairly wide in some parts

Further upstream there is another boardwalk. Notice that I am over on the Newquay side again, that's because I just waded the river, it only came half way up to my knees

Once I reached the high water mark on the Gannel I left the river and walked along the road to Trenance Gardens where there is a boating lake

On the far side of the lake is a sculpture of a swan. Wanted to get a picture without the seagull but I waited for fifteen minutes and it just stood there without looking like it was likely to move so I gave up and walked on.

There are ducks and other waterfowl on the lake

It's a nicely kept garden that is very pleasant to walk through with plenty of places to sit

I wonder if I am the only one who is reminded of Triffids by these obelisks

After the rose garden I entered this section with the path covered in petals

Almost at the end of the garden I looked back from a slight elevation

Thank you @SW-User!

@ninalanyon you know while I am experimenting with things, I always question what freedom is in depth. I know freedom doesn't look the same in every occasion. Being free to change our mind for example. It's not about being in a state of rebellion.
Or worse, a place to go so to avoid responsibility...❤

I walked down to Towan Beach this morning and watched an old man drawing on the sand. Well, age is just a number, he's actually only two years older than me. He's also not just any old man, he's Sax Berlin.

I and a man about half my age stood on the walls at the aquarium trying to get a better view and better pictures. I said it took me right back to sixties and seventies, he said it was an important message and that more people should pay attention.

Anyway, here's the best picture I could get

And here is one showing a bit more of the surroundings

And of course there are philistines everywhere, caught just before they walked straight over it.

He's done something similar several times this month.

Just been leafing through The Guardian, found this:
“No one had commented on my appearance until I reached 67, when people suddenly started to notice me,” she says. “It was very strange, but being spotted made me realise I could still achieve something for myself at this stage of my life. I had raised three children and now I wanted to see what I could do alone. If not now, then I never would.”

I'm not a model and definitely not as good looking but I recognize the situation and sentiment! My hair is not so grey though, what little there is :-)

Turning up fully dressed etc might just be a little much. Best to let your friend slide into accepting you as you are. I'm sure it will go very well.

@22Michelle I was hoping I'd be able to charge from his solar panels. Perhaps I should make sure I have enough to get back to the nearest Tesla Supercharger!

@ninalanyon Hope for the best, plan for the worst!

@22Michelle I'll be taking supplies of English delicacies such as Yorkshire tea and Branston Pickle/ I'll trade them for electrons. :-)
