I think it's more about character than politics. Say that someone believes women shouldn't have a right to vote, he can say it's a political opinion, but it also makes him a sexist ahole. Just a silly example. (=

@Nightwings yep.
SW-User
@Nightwings Exactly. That is a personality disorder trying to hide behind politics.
The problem is that it’s gotten to a point far beyond a difference of opinion on political issues. It’s about the type of person someone is willing to enthusiastically support, which gives much insight into their character, beliefs, morals, ethics. That insight can make it very difficult to see the supporter with respect and in a positive light, sometimes reaching the point where it’s better not to see them at all.
@OlderSometimesWiser that's how I'm beginning to feel
TheBatQueen · 26-30, F
Apparently not.
My friend share different views, I always avoid any topic that could ignite arguments.
But she is being really smug about their win, constantly posting insulting stuff and laughing at dems panicking over the upcoming grim future.
I just can't be anywhere around her anymore

@SW-User no self reflection, it's hilarious
I never did until the trump thing. I'm unaffiliated and generally like people. But with him it's different. He propagates hate and thats something I can't get along with on any level.
Mark12 · 61-69, M
That's because they are Trump supporters , how can you allow a man like that be president of the USA he's got his finger on the red button already
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@Mark12 I like yellow butter
Mark12 · 61-69, M
@LunarOrbit thanks for letting me know
Penny · 46-50, F
i am. people have a right to their own opinion even if you disagree with it. doesnt make them any less worthy of friendship unless they have a problem with you because of it of course.
JustNik · 51-55, F
When politics was about policy, I never gave it a thought. It’s not about policy anymore, and there are either those who embrace the malignancy of that or those who enable those who embrace the malignancy of that by pretending that it is. I avoid the former. I can interact with the latter, but it’s always in the back of my head. They know and simply don’t care. I’ll always treat humans like humans and wish them well, but I could never trust them enough to think they were a friend.
Northwest · M
8 years ago, one of the MAGAs created a "block list" and put me on it (don't know who else he added), and started circulating to the other MAGAs.
I don't block people I disagree with. I blocked people who tried to harass me by continuously post the same thing over and over in a thread. Proving they're 2-year old, but at one point, I wanted to protect the thread.
Those who have no point, resort to terrorism.

@Northwest I was blocked a lot too, funny thing is, I'm not political, but I just don't like Trump, stating that seems to be enough to get blocked by some
PlatonicSquirelFriends · 41-45
Its a two way street. If somebody is going to call me a bigot, racist or fascist because I'm not a member of their cult, they can pound sand.
If people are mutually respectful points of difference in opinion are no barrier to friendly relations

Im not going to tell a friend go f*** off just because of their political views. I think thats terrible. I dont agree with some of the political views others have on here but Im not going to block them because if it.
Tumbleweed · F
I can remain friends with people like that unless they come unhinged & start yelling and cussing at me.
We can agree to disagree and keep it movin.

Ducky · 31-35, F
Of course. I don't care about their politics just so long as they don't make it their personality and it doesn't demonstrate poor character for them.
Wireman · 31-35, M
It started getting worse during the plandemic, people only believing what they themself think.
Yes, but some people here are just to post something that they think is right, but don't have the capacity to think beyond that.
They take it as insult if your opinion is different than their's.
There are 2 types of people, one who listen to understand and others who listen to respond, argue, disagree...
There's a funny one here, who posts some random self made quotes and expect others to believe them, and when you disagree, they go all defensive... 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Yes but my friends and I don’t talk politics. It’s considered confidential like how much money you have.
NerdyPotato · M
Different opinions, yes. Different morals make it a lot more difficult though.
bijouxbroussard · F
I’m done with the Trump supporters. I cannot be friends with someone who doesn’t even have enough of a moral compass to keep a convicted criminal out of the White House.
That’s how I feel about that. 😳

I don't care what political views you have. I hate politics. However, if that politics is denying basic human rights, I'm not interested to talk with such people. You have reasonable politics and views, and unreasonable oppressionist mindsets.
There are people out there that are better, smarter, more noble than me and can and are willing to debate with them etc. I'm not one of them

I have noticed. And I think people are so thin skinned and close minded these days. Why are we so unable to allow others their opinions if different than those we hold? It really is pathetic. And stifles healthy debate in my opinion.
I think I can, but it might have to do with volume, frequency, and the dicknoseity they insist on putting into the message. Raise all those up high enough and even if I agree with the thesis, I might want to ... Well be not nice, I'll leave it to that.
SomeMichGuy · M
It depends.
Supporters of the person who apparently just won have insisted on lies being true, so...one cannot discuss anything with those who want their own "facts" as well as their own opinions.

I don't mind if someone has a different opinion to me, but some like to be argumentative and that's the time to just quit talking. I would listen to their views but I wouldn't want a slanging match over it!

I can co-exist with people who have different opinions and beliefs.
It just begins to annoy me when someone keeps pushing their agenda for me to change to their beliefs.

I kind of have no choice but to get along. I am not Red nor Blue so where does that leave me?
@Rokan neutral ground

@AbsolutelyFabulous There is like 1-2% of us so not like my voice gets heard anyway. just have to be use to it.
akindheart · 61-69, F
it is only because people are disrespectful. then the block button is hit. yes, i can be friends with people who differ from me.
Lugwho · 56-60, M
I used to be in real life, most of my friends had different political views.. I find it harder on line.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
I can. I hope people can with me, I don't know if people know what I think about politics n whatnot
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
At least the inlaws will stay away for the next four years. 😂
Elessar · 26-30, M
Depends on whom. Moderates of the opposite faction? Yeah. Nazis? No.
Of course, but unfortunately it takes TWO.
@SmileOnYourBrother that's true
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
Sometimes. Overall it's irritating though if it comes up too much.
Askeladd · 31-35, M
For sure. Though, I feel like most people aren’t.
Jessmari · 41-45
Not currently in that head space. In time.
I am. I don't know about others though.
HobNoblin · 36-40, M
Sure depending on the person.
I am capable
But do I? 😏
But do I? 😏
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
Yes
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I think so. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions. Even though they're wrong.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Of course. But some people are incapable of doing this because they are too weak and mentally incompetent to come to a resolve. Mature adults work things out in spite of their obvious differences. Childish adults hold grudges or hide. ☺
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
I dont know why people get so upset about politics, its not if we can change or do anything about it. I just laugh at both parties despising eachother lol
ThreeLittleBirds · F
Yah I accept people as they are … as long as they don’t cause issues in my life I get them and their mindset and just smile at em lol 🤍
Befriending people who, directly or indirectly, support / enable our own demise is not rational, it is very slow su1c1de ... why would anyone ever make allowances for this in others? There is no "redeeming quality" that outweighs the existential impacts of things like their voting choices.
DDonde · 31-35, M
Yes, one of my long time friends IRL is on the opposite side politically. As long as we don't talk politics we're fine.
tenente · 100+, M
if i didn't i'd be alone 🤔 ... wait 😲
