They say tiktok is collecting too much personal info. Well don't FB and other American social media do the same GD thing?

Blaming tiktok, isn't that kind of calling the kettle black?

@CestManan
They say tiktok is collecting too much personal info.
No organization collects as much personal info as the US Government. Tiktok is a private enterprise with a significant customer base. Anything Chinese these days is a target for assault.

@CestManan Calling the kettle black is when someone (the kettle) accuses someone else of doing something that they themselves are doing.

Tik Tok users are not seeing users personal info.

1. TikTok collects sensitive data about users even when they don’t save or share content. If you take a photo of a document or a place that has sensitive information and store it on your cellphone. Even if you don't conscientiously share it with TikTok, the app has access to it.

TikTok also has access to:
2. The entire contents of every message you send through the app since messages are not encrypted.
3. Your country location, internet address and type of device you are using.

With some permissions it also captures:
4. Your exact location.
5. Your phone’s contacts and other social network connections.
6. Your age and phone number
7. Payment information.

8. TikTok also uses technical measures to encode its activity. This means that some of what it does is hidden from external researchers.

9. Absence of two-factor authentication creates a possible security issue as it can lead to phishing or ransomware attacks, among other threats.

10. Additionally, TikTok’s parent company is located in China. Companies in China may be compelled to share data they have with the Chinese government.

India banned TikTok on June 29, 2020 due to privacy of people and national security issues. But an internal tool reviewed by Forbes showed that ByteDance and TikTok employees can still mine some of their most sensitive data. One employee called it “NSA-To-Go.”

@ABCDEF7 there are other apps that do it too. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong I’m just saying there are a lot of other apps that do this exact same thing, so why did they single out tick-tock just out of curiosity?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@DeluxedEdition Other apps that aren't directly owned by the Chinese governing party
TikTok is very safe as long as you’re not a creator or go live.
meJess · F
Nothing to do with the content everything to do with the access that app provides to its owners

Because potential criminal entities like.....anything the American government can dream up to make you fearful of, - Bad.

Exactly the same behaviour from American data harvesting companies masquerading as 'Facebook'/X/YouTube/Amazon/Google - Good
Why did they unban it after orange man terrible banned it?

This is in no way a backdoor to cancelling X and truth social leading up to november right?
sree251 · 41-45, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout You have a point.
I heard they had malicious intentions. shrugs
@sree251 That's just what I heard. I've never been on it.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Spoiledbrat This website is for bored adults, and kids.
@sree251 I heard it from someone that doesn't come here. I guess it was the news.

Chinese data harvesting.

Everything harvested by a Chinese company will be demanded to be handed over to the communist Chinese government for espionage purposes.
paulio · M
@travelguy01 criminals, who work together,,in an organised manner like the mafia
travelguy01 · 41-45, M
@paulio The Chinese government as a unified entity is capable of far greater damage than the mafia
sree251 · 41-45, M
@travelguy01 The Chinese just want to sell things.
maybe try Googling the subject, because it's been covered in detail by actual journalists rather than rando pseudo-pundits of varying degrees of reaility tetheredness on D-list social media sites
