By and large, no not really. We have a meal planner that we flip around - types of food and days - and pretty much stick to that. Obviously, sometimes you realise that you've run out of, for example, herbs and spices and condiments, but that's mainly it.
If we do go wild in the isles it's normally for fruit and/or biscuits.

@KarenDuponteDurose1 I need their help 🤣
That’s great though. Less stress!

@MellyMel22 Well, It is. We go regional, so for Italian night - that might be a lasagne dish, a pasta dish or a pizza dish. Indian will be some form of curry etc
We'll have nights when it's a couple of baked potatoes, baked beans and grated cheese on top, and that's it.

@KarenDuponteDurose1 Sounds good and easy!

If you are the same as I was, most of the stuff you buy is for others, either in the family or "blow ins" as I call them. Since living alone I actually spend less than I budget for..😷
MellyMel22 · F
@whowasthatmaskedman Well my mom didn’t give me a list this time for her, but I do have kids to shop for too and there was plenty of stuff that I got thinking of them.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MellyMel22 While I dont recommend living alone as a lifestyle choice, it does cut out those discretionary buys for others..😷
MellyMel22 · F
@whowasthatmaskedman I get that! But I have to feed the kids 😌🤣
unregisteredhypercam4 · 22-25, M
I'm usually pretty good about it. Two things that really helped me are making lists and using an app to calculate the total as you go.
MellyMel22 · F
@unregisteredhypercam4 Well that’s great!
4meAndyou · F
I really don't HAVE the extra money to spend...and the thought of an overdraft fee from my bank just panics me. Because I don't have the money to pay the overdraft OR the fee, and the fee is charged every single DAY that you don't pay back the overdraft!
MellyMel22 · F
@4meAndyou That’s often me, but taxes came back recently. I try to make it a habit to put a small amount of money away that I’m saving for emergency, so I’m usually pretty limited myself usually.
bijouxbroussard · F
One benefit of having groceries delivered is that I only buy what I initially planned to. In the store, other items would mysteriously end up in the cart en route to checkout. 😅
MellyMel22 · F
@bijouxbroussard I always thought that’s be a great idea, but I’m one of those you see picking fruit and veggies looking for the best ones a long time and then the workers come to say they’ll see if there’s better ones in the back cause they see you’re annoyed 😂 I can’t deal w/ bruised apples and soggy tomatoes and other things. Otherwise it’d be a great idea for me!
StygianKohlrabi · 46-50, M
I am more concerned about how much I eat, how much I throw out, and how much I eat out. I barely ever eat out, so there's that. then I purchase my non perishables in bulk.
MellyMel22 · F
@StygianKohlrabi I try to do that.
StygianKohlrabi · 46-50, M
@MellyMel22 so you have Costco or just Prime?
MellyMel22 · F
@StygianKohlrabi Prime, BJ’s and another place. If you mean prime food shopping, I don’t remember what it’s called- fresh maybe? They don’t do it by me. I tried.
This is seriously me. I’m not gonna tell you how much I spent three weeks ago just in two days, but I was completely broke by Monday. I had so much money in my bank account on Friday and then Monday like $30 left 🙄😅😅 I was supposed to use that money for summer classes 🙄
MellyMel22 · F
@TurtlePink Oh no! I have a problem too, but been saving a bit that I act like I can’t touch lol
Lol….. understandable. But making a list and not shopping hungry helps.

@OlderSometimesWiser Oh that’s great! That makes sense! I might try it some day. When my kids are bringing in packages, I remind whoever has the bag with the apples to be extremely careful like it’s glass 😂 Thank you for sharing that.
@MellyMel22 Just to add, if you join Walmart+ it’s about $100 per year for unlimited free grocery delivery plus a bunch of other perks. So running back and forth to the store shouldn’t be necessary. 🙂
MellyMel22 · F
@OlderSometimesWiser Thats not bad! I might think about it if I ever find a place to move 😬

Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
The prices of things are just that sky high anymore. It’s not just you.
MellyMel22 · F
@Ambroseguy80 That too, but I did get for example a $20 bottle of oil and other stuff similar, on sale too 🙄
Lmaooo ALWAYS!!!! Esp with food 🥲
MellyMel22 · F
@mindstruggle And people wonder why I shop in such big quantities sometimes, it’s to avoid having to go back!
@MellyMel22
Exactly!!!! I also buy in bulk when I have a budget. I make sure that I consume it before it expire tho. 😐
My fave part is buying fruits and veggies

beermeplease · M
yeah...same if i go to the bar like i will in a little while... i'll tell myself..."ok beery, just have 4 beers and go home" then reality sets in...
""hey bar tender...i'll take my bill please *hiccup"
bar tender...."that will be $120 plus tip beery" (*fuck...i over served him)
beery then pays the bill, stumbles 20 minutes home for which is normally a 5 minute walk..has a night cap...wakes up on the couch wondering if he paid his bill the night before 🤦

I think food is just overpriced these days.
MellyMel22 · F
@Selah Def is. I had 3 bags not even full and four 24 packs of water.
craig7 · 70-79, M
I try not to,but inevitably sometimes I do.I'll see something that I wasn't planning to buy,think about it for a few seconds - then think "what the heck" and drop it into the basket.
MellyMel22 · F
@craig7 I get that. I do that a lot seeing things for my kids!

smileylovesgaming · 31-35, FVIP
I all was plan to spend $200 on groceries
MellyMel22 · F
@smileylovesgaming I was only supposed to get water and a couple of things for dinner 😅 I’m at the store several times a week.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, FVIP
@MellyMel22 do u make a list of what u need
MellyMel22 · F
@smileylovesgaming I almost always do! I think I got extra because they’re redoing the store and even the labels for the aisles are not right yet so I was walking through the entire store looking for everything and seeing everything else. Though I didn’t do too bad considering. I did find stuff that I knew that I needed and wasn’t planning on getting, but should’ve remembered before seeing it!
Lostpoet · M
I hate shopping I already know what I need and how much it is going to cost before I even step into the store.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Lostpoet With reference to one of your previous posts on another subject. "You shop in a very manly way."😷
Lostpoet · M
@whowasthatmaskedman I is a man🥺
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Lostpoet Yes. I was acknowledging that, but had nothing to say on the subject to support your claim until now..😷
