I Wonder Why They Stopped Selling Hash Brown Patties At Walmart?

Not enough profits or what. They do sell loose shredded hash browns but I don’t want those. I used to like to buy them for a breakfast side on the weekend. They have some at Winco but they have wheat as an ingredient and I can’t have gluten. Maybe I’ll try Aldi and read the ingredients.

Yes, go figure. They took them off their shelves like 2 years ago and just recently reappeared but more like a hybrid biscuit- potato blend.

The were probably big-big sellers when they suddenly vanished.

Given what I have heard of people who shop at Walmart. There is strong to fare chance someone tried to eat them frozen from a packet.

@Thevy29 probably some whacked out parent gave them frozen to a toddler to chew on
get them at Aldi's for a good price. they cook up nicely in the air fryer

@saragoodtimes oh thanks for saying that. I have a little convection glass bowl cooker that works like an air fryer. I might have to get some next time I go. I went yesterday and forgot to get them.
@cherokeepatti I always forget something when I go to market and remember when I get home. have told myself to make a list so many times but never do

I just watched a youtube video about how to make hash brown patties, for a full English breakfast, and apparently you use corn flour and egg to hold them together, and the ring molds, like the ones you bought. It's a lengthy process.

It involves cooking the shredded potatoes first, then mixing them with corn flour and egg when they've cooled, pressing them into ring molds on top of squares of parchment paper, chilling them, and then deep frying them.

No wonder you don't want to make the patties yourself!!!

@4meAndyou I could do it and freeze them in Ziploc bags, I just don’t know if I want to right now. I do have enough of the molds to make it easier.

Every once in a while I can find them at Winn dixie or Publix, but have not seen that at Walmart in a hot minute, I'm upset that I can not find the hard-roll French rolls by pepperidge farm

@cherokeepatti I know that the baby loves them, he is 1 and eats them when I can actually make them.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@AlyAngel make a nice side when cooked to a crispy edge with some ketchup and with eggs. That’s a nice treat for me.
AlyAngel · F
@cherokeepatti Yeah we drop it into the fry daddy while making up some scrabbled eggs, they are always a hit, he has not yet discovered ketchup which is a plus because my other two make me need to buy that shit in bulk lol

Maybe Whole Foods ?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@cherokeepatti Can you buy potatoes and use a cheese grater to make your own?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@MrBrownstone I had used a mandolin box grater to make hash browns. Cheese graters are too small.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MrBrownstone I can grate potatoes but I want the patties already made.
Interesting. I just now noticed this. I remember them being there growing up but yeah, I havent seen any of that besides the shredded ones
Lilymoon · F
Do you eat gluten free bread? I can't find any that taste good 😐
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Lilymoon I usually make my own. The best one for sliced bread is on Classy Cooking website. I’ve tried a lot of recipes and that one is good.
Lilymoon · F
@cherokeepatti doubt I could make it but thank you!
FurryFace · 61-69, M
did you give Hash Brownies to Boo Boo ? , that might explain a few issues , lol
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@FurryFace No but he chewed on an oregano plant that was on the table next to his cage. I told him I saw the bite marks on the leaves and hoped they tasted good.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Aldi and Winco are awesome.
icedsky · 51-55, M
I always just shred them up with the shredder attachment on the mixer. Can pick and choose what potatoes to use. Golds have been the choice lately.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@icedsky I don’t want plain shredded potatoes. I want the hash brown patties.
Browns? That’s a micro-aggression..

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Comes with a country breakfast and that hints of being a Conservative so they can’t have that.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Find a restaurant that has some you, like. Most managers will be more than happy to sell you some in a ziplock bag
originnone · 61-69, M
I'm kind of surprised you don't do your own.
Atlotto · M
I can purchase them at "Save A Lot".
