I accidentaly stopped my meds, and now I'm not sure what to do..

Talking about the meds I'm taking for C-PTSD. I haven't taken them in about a week now, while waiting for them to give me the right dosage..

Now that I've gone a week without, I'm thinking that maybe I should just continue without them for a bit and see how it goes..

I already know my doctor would tell me no, they're afraid that I'm going to collapse or something.. But I've wanted to get off them for a long time now.

Idk..

If anyone has suddenly stopped taking sertraline/zoloft, how was the side-effects? More importantly, how long did they last 🥹

I understand wanting to stop your meds to see how you do. I have been on Zoloft (coupled with abilify) and my pdoc at the time weaned me off that to switch me to Paxil. I have suddenly stopped taking ssri’s and snri’s before, and I wasn’t doing well. But honestly I wasn’t doing well on the meds either.
I hope you’re ok

I had a dr give me sample packs of Zoloft from the office when I couldn’t get mine refilled for a few weeks. Is that why you didn’t have yours, you couldn’t get the right dosage filled? He had me double up on pills to get to my dosage

@itsok Yes, I asked for a refill and got the wrong dosage, so I've been waiting for it until today 🥹
In my experience it’s not at all wise to just stop taking these medications. One of the great mind-fucks of anti-depressants is you start feeling better so you don’t think you need them anymore when the reason you’re feeling better is because you’re taking them. Please follow your doctor’s advice and if the drugs you’re taking are numbing you, be sure to talk to them about that as adjustments can be made.

Unfortunately it’s a process of trial and error which can be incredibly frustrating but playing doctor yourself is rarely a good solution.

@OlderSometimesWiser I'm skeptical to all medication 🥹 I've been taking these now for years, and just feel like it's time to stop. I don't like the side-effects they give, and I'm kinda tired of all the trials. I'm happy that I started them tho, cause they helped me get thru a lot, I just feel like maybe I don't need them anymore, and can feel better without taking them. Specially since I'm also taking adhd meds now
@Cassieeeee And that’s not an unreasonable way to feel. But please do it under a doctor’s supervision.

@OlderSometimesWiser I will, I sent her a message about it

Now that I've gone a week without, I'm thinking that maybe I should just continue without them for a bit and see how it goes..

The question really is: how do you feel without them? Have you asked anyone close to you whether they have noticed a change in your behaviour?
Cassieeeee · 31-35, F
@ArtieKat I'm not sure if I feel a big difference. I've had so much focus on other things that I haven't had much time to think about how I feel. I still have symptoms, but I had that while I took them too. I do feel like I've had some side-effects the last week tho.
I understand you can feel their answer coming already, and I understand you don't like being on meds. Maybe follow their instructions until you get yourself to a better place, mentally, and then focus on weaning off?
Cassieeeee · 31-35, F
@SinlessOnslaught yes, but how will I know I'm getting better, if I keep suppressing my feelings with drugs, that simply just numb me 🥹
@Cassieeeee I know what you mean. I was on a medication that made me like a zombie and then my doctor suddenly stopped prescribing it without notice. It was hell. I would have much rather dropped the dosage in small increments.
@Cassieeeee and that is why I won't start any.

(Sorry to throw in a random 2 cents)
I would consult your doctor or at least a pharmacist.

It is not just worrying about relapse. Some of these drugs come with not fun withdrawal too that can be harmful.
When you just stop without weaning off sometimes the symptoms come back full force. I hope you feel okay . 🩷

@SpiritSkye I feel okei as of right now 🥹🩷
@Cassieeeee Just be careful. I don't want you to get bombed all of a sudden. You'll be okay . :)

I guess you know by now what the effects are. So hard to get the right meds right.

Stopping cold turkey isn't the best way to go. Talk to your doc

You are through the withdrawal part so your symptoms will return next
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
I'd start again before I had problems
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
It's the smartest thing to do
You gota retitrate from smaller to larger doses again or it can get you legit sick
