I'm wanting to build a coffee table and have a few designs in mind... can't decide which I like so I'm asking the SW gang to vote on which they like best. I've numbered the images and would love to here your thoughts on which is the one you like the best.
@Carla good idea on using a different species in place of the Maple (white wood), maybe a cherry which is a bit lighter and has a reddish/brown tone... and you are right, it does have the "pop" element which is why it attracted me.
@CookieCrumbs building, fixing and creating satisfies, sooths and brings me peace like nothing else does. Even like with the table - when I look at something, imagine it, draw out a plan and screw it all up when building it, and have to start over🤣
It's never been that I know what I'm doing, I just "feel" my way through it and sometimes that is not the best of plans.
Ha! Glass tables... I bought a glass topped dinette table years ago. Got rid of it within a few months and to this day, I have no clue why I even bought it. I think it was when they first became poplar and I bought into the fad. I seldom do that and am usually a traditionalist, sort of an old soul even when I wasn't old😁
@TexChik interesting... that's the one thought that had me hesitating on #3. I'm not going for elegant, more casual. Now I'm thinking maybe solid walnut with two oblong inlaid cherry panels. In any case, you have me thinking.
@SoftIceCream the place I get my lumber from sells kiln dried, so that isn't a problem and yes, sealing well is always part of the process. Swapping the Maple for a darker wood, maybe Cherry, is a thought, but I think the contrast is important... a dark (blackish) wood down the middle would detract from the idea of having the stripe. Not sure that would be what I want, but the idea of a bit darker stripe has merit.
@Ontheroad I was thinking that stripe down the center was Epoxy Resin. The black Epoxy looks very nice with real wood. Lots of youtube vids showing it.
@SoftIceCream I purposefully stayed away from the resin idea. I think it looks okay on the river table style with live edges, but that isn't something I like all that much. They look nice, but just not something I would want.
@OogieBoogie totally get that it's "supportive" and you are the second person to say the legs make it easy to clean under. I never though of that, but it would be a plus... just need to maybe redesign those legs a bit... it's the style that bothers me, but the ability to stand up under my big butt if I sit on it, has its pluses.
@Ontheroad Yes! I got the seal of approval😁 I hoped I'd get enough different comments to get me thinking and it worked! I kept looking and did this cut and paste mockup and now I'm pretty satisfied with it... plus I got a yes!
