It's not that serious on a site like this. I actually love it, it can say more than words at times. I especially love the gifs because it fills the nonverbal elements that online world lacks. No words can transfer certain emotions and sentiments better than one specific facial expression on a gif. Sometimes I wonder if I could actually deliver the message through my facial expressions in real life as well as some gifs can online.

That kind of stuff should only be a supplement. I agree with you that it becomes hard to carry things on when all you are getting is reactions in return. But to be honest maybe that's the other person's intent. Sure feels that way when you're writing with someone and you put yourself out there and the only response they give is a "heart". Can make me feel I'm simply not worth the words.
