old people and technology drive my crazy

I got my grandma a tablet for Christmas to replace her older one which has started freezing. I called her this morning and she says she ‘doesn’t know how to use it’. It uses Android OS, the same as her old one, and I set it up the same as her old one, but because the wallpaper is different and the clock widget is different apparently that means it’s a whole new system and she’s getting herself in a muddle.

Maybe I should have followed my dad’s advice and got her something else, because, as he said…: ‘She’s 88, what’s the point in getting her a new tablet. She’ll be dead before the old one completely breaks anyway’

I sometimes struggle with new technology, and I'm nowhere near 88 years of age. Much of it just isn't "user-friendly", in spite of it being advertised as such.

@Bella98 I have a 16-year old boy who helps me with some of the things I don’t understand. He should volunteer at the library or Senior citizens building to teach older people these things.

@poisonouscupcake ahahaha damn, a laptop is even harder to use!
Flip phones are vastly superior though, come on

@poisonouscupcake I use a flip-phone. A Nokia. They're good.

I wonder what the equivalent scenario will be when/if I'm that age

@SW-User let us hope the crazies allow the world to be human friendly in 30 years.

@samueltyler2 it's a beautiful thing to dwell on 🌺

@SW-User really, i did not like to dwell on what may happen, i do hope the world will improve.

Someone needs to be patient enough to sit with her as she learns how to maneuver this new tablet.

Both of my parents were having trouble with the new TVs.

My mum is 71.
She uses Facebook better than I can on her phone, but for some unfathomable reason can't use a computer of any kind.
I miss my gran

@V00doo Wanna share mine? Go visit her and set this damn tablet up. I beg you

@SW-User 🤔 maybe true but a little harsh on your dads part 😆

My father still uses an 8-track in his pickup truck. He says he likes it because he can insert the cassettes with one hand and press the right buttons without taking his eyes off the road, which means he won't be upgrading to CD's anytime soon!
