Ever think someone is pretty cool and then they say or do something that totally blows that theory

I used to know and talk with a woman who always seemed so nice.
Then, one day, I over-heard her talking about how much she hated cats and that she would go out of her way to run over them.

I never talked to her after that.

I used to be cool with my younger brother even though we hardly see each other i thought we were all good because we are sister and brother- found out from my mum that he doesnt like me. He was talking bad about my son to my mother. Pretty obvious that hes got a chip on his shoulder about me. That took me a long time to come to terms with i was shocked.

I think we are supposed to love with humility and forgiveness. The latter, because people, being imperfect, WILL let us down. The former, because WE'LL be the one letting someone down, eventually.

I feel ,on a personal level,that I don't exist to be cool or live up to people's preconceived ideas about me.
I will disappoint many, I suppose.
That being said I think when someone we admire turns out to be not so admiralable in our eyes it leads to disappointment.

I find it best not to expect anything. Expectations only lead to disappointment.

Oh yeah! Plenty of times. Hell, I once saw one make a heartfelt post condemning bullying and racism, only to later find them actively harassing LGBT users. Some individuals have some interesting ethics and morals. 😂

If you're loved by everyone, you're doing it wrong. People should be disappointed, that way you know the few that remain are solid acquaintances .

Yes. Sometimes it's just feeling a little shocked or disappointed, when that happens. Sometimes, what they say or do is way worse than not seeming "pretty cool"...anymore.

Yep someone who married into the family. I thought he was awesome when I first met him then after a few years saw many sides to him that make me cringe.

Yes ! I posted about someone I’d actually admired before he started tossing around the "n" word. And another poster I’d really liked, who was defending Trump and trashing BLM. That was really disappointing. 😞

Yeah, I always try to be more forgiving than that, I all then what they meant, why they felt that way if they said something concerning their beliefs or feelings etc. Or at minimum weigh out in my head what they said, (if it was really upsetting or sounded really out of his/her character) and if it might have been a joke or maybe even began to expose a pattern of character flaws I definitely didn't want to align myself with. Some people say things sarcastically (like me), randomly (like me) or maybe say things a little misaligned with beliefs of others (like me) to get people to see things differently, make someone smile during a difficult situation or get someone distracted long enough that they themselves question why they were upset in the first place. There are an infinite number of reasons people say what they do. If we stop and ask what they meant, then we can understand people and their own personal perspectives on things and why they say, feel and do things they do. Which I am sure you already knew all of that. 🤪

Yes! It happens to the best of us... we either notice that about others or we are the ones others notice it about.
I'm sure plenty think that about me on here... and I have my times I think that about others on here.
Daily life... not as often since people don't just post for the world to see and read.
