Personally, I have always found it ODD not to toss them in the trash.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I plant the shells in my garden, I'm hoping to grow a chicken. It hasn't worked yet but I'll never give up, I'm no quitter.
@FreeSpirit1 you have to plant them whole, pointy side up
Fluffybull · F
Throw them in the bin. Why would anyone put them back in the carton? We recycle our egg cartons.
Magenta · F
Toss them, as I reuse my cartons for my hens eggs.
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@Magenta Same! I return them to my daughter who brings me fresh eggs.
Magenta · F
@skmokisses Ah, that's great!
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
I put them on paper towels and when In finished I carry them out to the compost bin. They great make soil for later
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@saragoodtimes i won't be able to stay long. My health and life won't allow me to hang out a lot, but I will try to check in. Thank you for caring about me.
@Fungirlmmm you take care
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@saragoodtimes I will try to, but sometines it is out of our control.
WindTherapy · 56-60, M
I thought you meant a cracked egg when you got the carton home. Why would you put the cracked shell back in the carton? WTF????? 🤣
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@WindTherapy Exactly?!?!?! Idk either, but some do this and I don't understand why. Can you say salmonella 😱
WindTherapy · 56-60, M
@skmokisses I just make sure the trash can is out near where I'm cracking them. Crack, pour, and the shell directly into the trash. Carton heads to the recycle bin. Easy peasy.
TexChik · F
@skmokisses 😲 I have never gotten sick from doing that . After I discard the broken I wipe out the container and put it and the remaining eggs back in the fridge. 😉
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Shells and cardboard box in my compost bin The wiggley worms love them
Barny52 · 56-60, M
@GeniUs worms make lovely plant food when you collect the worm wee, we have comfrey here i put it in my water but, it rots in the water and makes free plant food but it smells terrible
Barny52 · 56-60, M
@GeniUs your in uk you will already know about comfrey
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Barny52 I don't I'd not heard of it, I just use the worm product in water.
edit: just had a quick look, I have used nettles to make fertiliser before, I assume they work just the same.
TexChik · F
I put them back in the carton because it’s right next to the pan, then I carry the carton over to the trash and discard the shells to avoid a drippy mess .
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
avoid a drippy mess .
@TexChik until you get to the bedroom later. 😏
TexChik · F
bowman81 · M
I toss them unless I am finishing up the carton and then I will toss the whole mess in the trash.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I put them in the trash. Now If I was going to use all of those eggs making breakfast for others I would put the shells back in the carton before throwing it all in the trash. I have done that. But those eggshells are good in compost bins and are good if you bake or boil them a little and put them in chicken food, they help build new eggshells for the eggs they lay.
Is there no cook option?
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@Mindfulness Giggles, well I would assume they are cracking to cook 😋
@skmokisses [image deleted]
They usually end up on the counter unless I'm going to use the rest of the carton. If I didn't have dogs and need a lid, or kept my trash can closer, I'd go straight for the trash.
goliathtree · 56-60, M
We feed them back to the chickens. They love them.

Since we don't buy eggs at the grocery store, we make the cartons last as long as possible.
Ingwe · F
place them in front when unpacking them in the fridge to use first
unless it is a deep crack and liquid spilled out -toss with carton in bin
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I always take them from the carton before cracking, but if you mean opening the carton and finding an egg cracked already, I toss it.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
I only put them back in the carton to keep the shells until I've cracked all the eggs I'm going to, then they go off to the Insinkerator.
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
I’m a tosser. ☺️

Wait. Isn’t that an insult in Britain? 😒
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@TexChik but I forget what it means. 🫢
TexChik · F
@Ambroseguy80 a pervert I think
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@TexChik that’s a compliment.
Ontheroad · M
I toss them, but now since @FreeSpirit1 admits to being a failure at growing new chickens, I am going to plant them and show her up!
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Good for the compose pile, or directly in the garden
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@Virgo79 I LOVE to see all the people saying compost 💚
Virgo79 · 61-69, M

JesseInTX · 51-55, M
I toss them as well
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@JesseInTX Seems like the sanitary thing to do
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@skmokisses I don’t cook many eggs. Use them mainly for egg wash when frying chicken or backstrap
Punxi · 26-30, F
Straight in the sink and devoured by the disposal
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
i recycle the containers
Northwest · M
I have a small odorless composting can in the kitchen, with biodegradable bags. When a bag is full, I take it to the composting collection can outside my garage, and on collection day, I put the recyclables/compost/garbage bin to the curb, where they get picked up.
bikelover · 51-55, M
Straight in the composter
Valerian · 100+, M
The put back into the carton thing is just an interim step prior to tossing into the trash can that's not near the stove or countertop.
The carton here never leaves the fridge until it's empty.

I don't doubt that people put them back in the carton, but WHY? 🤷🏻‍♂️
PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
Always toss them
Neoerectus · M
compost... great calcium
AlyAngel · F
Toss always
Caraxes · 41-45, M
I put them in a bowl which I use to collect food waste and then into the food was bin
Degbeme · 70-79, M

Justenjoyit · 56-60, M
I separate the bio rubbish with the paper rubbish
Thats Germany for you lol, plus plastic bottles and drinks cans have 25 euro cents return value.
I toss the shells in the garbage. I don’t know anyone who puts them back in the carton. That’s odd.
@bijouxbroussard I guess yhat makes me an oddball. It's an old habit of mine. lol😜
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
