Admitting it is the first step to recovery

Does that go for any illness? If I admit that I’m not well and my head is full of suicidal thoughts is that a step to getting better?

BlueVeins · 22-25
Ultimately yes. I mean you need to identify an issue in order to treat it.
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
I believe being honest with yourself that something is wrong, and truly accepting it is the the first step. You can't attempt to get better if you don't believe there is a problem. What doesn't exist, can't be fixed.

I truly hope that what I said made sense. Are you okay?
It is. Your pain deserves to be acknowledged.

Yep, chances are you'll need to talk to a professional as step two, it helps to have someone impartial you can say anything to, if you aren't already hooked up with someone to talk to please talk to your GP about getting some help.

You can get through this. Big {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}
Well not ALL, but in general, yes.
(Im assuming you mean mental illness)

Like, i dont imagine schizophrenia is curable by mental effort alone, but some other ilnesses such as addiction, depression, trauma, even narcissism, can be helped greatly by going through the mental journey of acceptance and ingraining new mental processes.

Its a very personal journey, unique to each person.
But accepting ones 'illness' if you want to call it that, is like finally facing ones demons: instead of hiding from
it, or numbing it, or denying it, you decide to embrace it, and face it.

They say the way to healing is THROUGH.
Its not fun though, its a painful process. (Which is why many prefer to stick with medication)

We can't change what has happened, we cant fix the past, but we CAN change our perception of it, and how we react to memories of it.

And for many, this can lead to a very empowered transition. ie: some trauma victims become therapists for the very thing they suffered .

It is a long journey though. Its not weeks or months, but years. True healing takes time.💜

Wanting to stop them is a great first step.
Speaking frrom experience.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@BarbossasHusband that's the second step according to this post
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
@MartinTheFirst I'm not gonna argue
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@BarbossasHusband i mean.. it's logically sound, you can't want to stop them before admitting that something exists that needs to be stopped
I went through an age of wanting to die but i got through it to happiness so I hope you can too. Stay strong ☺️

I don't know....I guess it's better to talk about it
SW-User
@SW-User it’s not something people like to talk about though…I’ve tried and people can’t take it or freak out or push you away so you learn to stop talking
SW-User
@SW-User I guess because we cannot help, it gets uncomfortable, it makes us face up to our own problems that we're trying to bury.... Nobody is perfect and without fault or problems
