The people I’m closest to choose to be near me when they don’t have to be. Not all of them would be horribly upset by the loss of me, but I seem to be a good and pleasant thing to them for the most part, and I think there’s meaning in that. Like we may not always sit under our favorite tree, but it gives us something of worth when we do kinda thing.

I have never really given it a thought but perhaps the one or the other person that I could help with a donation, a coin or even a hot coffee and sandwich when they needed something warm may have had a second where they thought that my gesture meant something to them.
