What’s your middle name?

And why do we even have those?
Top | New | Old
Piper · 61-69, F
It is the same as my maternal grandmother, and is more commonly a name given to a male person. 🙂

I think there is more than one reason why 'we' have those, but at least those of who do have more than one given name to choose from!
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I legally changed my birth given middle name to what was my maiden name when I got married. My fiancee said he wouldn't marry me if I didn’t take his name. I retrospect, I would have never changed it.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
That's a secret. Heck some of my immediate family don't even know it. My two older half sisters never knew it.

Only two know my first name on this site. None do I tell my middle name.

Yet I must admit, it's the only way to tell me from my father's name.
Vin53 · M
@DeWayfarer Wouldn't the distinction "the one who's still alive" give it away?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Vin53 I have no idea if my middle half sister is alive even. She would be older than mom was when she passed away by now.

I have a niece and nephew that are both older than me.

Our mother got married very young.
Ducky · 31-35, F
Judith. It's named after my maternal grandmother who died a week before I was born, so I guess in my case it's like carrying on her memory? Though I didn't pick it, of course.
faery · F
Mine's my maternal great-grandmother's maiden surname and also my mother's middle name. Just another way to resurrect a family name, I guess.
My middle name is my great-great grandfather's middle name and the last name of a famous American, both of whom were part of the inspiration.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
Scott. I don't know why we have middle names. Scott is my mother's maiden name.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
Supreme Overlord
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
Joseph. It's named after my paternal grandfather's brother.
SirAhmed · 31-35, M
Egyptians are so very proud of their families and their parents. So we end up carrying a fifth name
Rutterman · 46-50, M
Patrick. It was the name of one of my ancestors. He probably robbed stagecoaches, but I don't really know.
poisonouscupcake · 22-25, F

the theory of nominative determinism checks out
