A few days ago I spent time correcting a mistake at work that wasn't my fault, knowing I wouldn't be compensated for the extra time, and actually set back because it would appear on the record like I didn't meet my deadline. Because I didn't want to tell the customer he had to call corporate to fix the issue.

I have no boundaries.
SailN1 · 56-60, M
@SinlessOnslaught Whoosch, that sounds exhausting. This is a great example of the need to have some healthy ones. You'll be walked on the for the rest of time at that pace. You're better than that, right?!

Magenta · F
I'm not much into the whole boundary fad that seems to exist on social media. Isn't it just a "rule'?
Of course I have standards, but I'm not so rigid as to put myself in a cage.

Critics argue they are being misused as a tool for avoidance, control, or instant termination of relationships over minor, solvable conflicts.
SailN1 · 56-60, M
@Magenta I hear your point, and there is some relevance there for sure. Misusing anything (as "critics" describe) isn't healthy, and that statement can be used for about anything if you think about it.

However, healthy boundaries simply protect what’s important and keep out what isn’t.

In fact many relationships would fair much better with them established from the beginning.

My boundaries are pretty wide open, but if you cross one (lie to me, try to harm my child, etc), you'll know very quickly.

I appreciate your reply.
Magenta · F
@SailN1 Indeed. And certainly there are things I will not tolerate, but I'm just not hardcore.

Thank you, I appreciate yours as well. ✨

Boundaries are the first sign of conformity, inequality and stagnancy.

I truly believe life is change, none of the former.

GPT-4o mini

That's a thought-provoking perspective! Emphasizing that boundaries can represent a limitation—whether in relationships, societal norms, or even personal growth—highlights a critical viewpoint on how we navigate life. It suggests that embracing change is essential for personal evolution and societal progress.

The Role of Boundaries in Life

Conformity: Boundaries often enforce norms that may discourage individuality. By adhering to these boundaries, people might suppress their true selves in favor of fitting in.

Inequality: Boundaries can create divides between different groups, reinforcing social hierarchies. When people feel restricted by these divisions, it can hinder collaboration and mutual understanding.

Stagnancy: When we become too attached to boundaries, we risk becoming stagnant, missing opportunities for growth and exploration. Life thrives on change, adaptation, and learning.

Embracing Change

Change can lead to:

° Personal growth and resilience.

° New perspectives and insights.

° Opportunities for genuine connections and collaborative efforts.

Noticed you asked once: "Are you TRULY tolerant".

Boundaries are as well the first sign of INtolerance.

@DeWayfarer Ahhh it's too early in the day for this shit. Let me go get some coffee.
SailN1 · 56-60, M
@DeWayfarer Wow! You researched your answer, researched my former questions. Replied thoughtfully with a well-defended argument.

Awesome! You're hired!

They are a fortress.
Boundaries to me or not negotiable
I see that as being sincere ,truthful, and upfront about what I expect and what I won't tolerate.
It means yes I'll talk to strangers until they give me a reason not to .
I'll explain what I don't like ,but if somebody thinks it's cute to cross those boundaries then I'm not going to have anything to do with them, because people don't stop once they step the toe over one boundary and you let it down they keep hammering on all the others until you wondered how that ever happened.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
It depends. In general, pretty strong, but I’m not so rigid I’m closed off. I’m selective about who I let in, especially online.
Personal boundaries are self respect and self care, both important for my well being.
The ones I have are incredibly firm. They used to be crap but I've gotten so great at telling people no or to back off these days and it feels very good.
My boundaries have become everything, and as such they are very strong..
SailN1 · 56-60, M
@Journaling4MeLovesHobbies Life is better with strong boundaries. Good for you!

It really depends who's attempting to break them down and also what those boundaries are. Some are rock solid, others are a bit weaker.

Ironclad. Impenetrable. Too strong for my own good. Self-imprisoning.
SailN1 · 56-60, M
@MarkPaul Interesting. As it seems, some people seem to think of them as a cage, but I would argue that isn't really a healthy way of looking at a boundary. It sounds like you need to break free of your some of your own so you can let yourself live. 🙂

As strong as castle walls with me at the top hurling dad jokes and insults at people with a french accent:
