Did this person give me right advice?

I started working at a part-time job where Im on my feet almost all of the time;however,Im lucky in the sense that its acceptable to take off your shoes while working.I was talking a woman who works as a nurse,and she told me that its better to do so as soon as my feet hurt a little and not to wait untill they are absolutely killing me.Does this make sense?

I think you'd be better off wearing healthy shoes.

@helenS Unfortunately,I dont have that option.

@KT2002 Hard to believe, but... ok if you say so 😑

If you take off your shoes, your bare feet will pick up germs and dirt from other people's shoes. While it is true that you should not punish your feet by continually wearing shoes that hurt, you should probably search for flats or dress shoes that are cushioned, or buy your own gel sole inserts.

Going without shoes is what would kill my feet. I agree with @helenS. Shoes with good arch supports are what saved me from chronic pain.

@UnderLockDown What can I say? Birks have an anatomical footbed and I can wear them for hours and hours and they still feel comfy. They are not slippery because it's suede leather. The only problem is they really don't look good – they look like a boat. 😏

@helenS @UnderLockDown Birks are the only thing that I wear now that I am retired. If it is a formal occasion -- sadly, mostly funerals these days -- I put on socks. Not a slippery fit because they conform to your foot with wear. My late wife used to do the reverse of what most women do -- she would wear heels to and from work and Birks in the office all day. Her reasoning was that her feet were on display out in public, particularly since she too public transit, but seldom seen in the office, other than by co-workers.

@dancingtongue Your wife was a wise woman! 🌷

What type of work do you do that would allow you to take off your shoes?

@KT2002 Gotcha

@chrisCA Our exchange was actually quite funny.

Floor mats, or decent insoles and shoes that fit. I love going barefoot, but at work it's a bad idea. I go barefoot so much I can walk on hot asphalt, but usually not in heavily trafficked areas. Short top hiking boots work well for standing and walking work.

No haha. I think she means that your feet swell throughout the day but I'd just wear more comfortable shoes, thicker socks and drive or bike to work. My feet don't hurt anymore since I did that.
That's not safe. I think she is messing with you.. you should wear comfortable and cushioned shoes
