My exboyfriend of 6 months broke up with me

Because I lack emotional immaturity and react quote "like an immature 14 year old" but got so mad last night after reaching out after not talking to me after a week of breaking up with me that I didn't want to be his friend. My thing is why do you want to be friends with someone who quote is emotionally draining for you?
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
That's a very good question, and not one that a typical 14 year old would think to ask. Did you ask him why he wants to be your friend, and if it is more to keep you in his life for his sake than yours? Let him tell you why he wants you around. If you like the answer and are emotionall mature enough to remain friends then you could try it, but if you genuinely loved him it probably is going to take more than a,couple weeks to get past the hurt and be able to turn the page and be friends. It most likely would take the average person years not weeks so proceed slowly.

Yeah should respect you if you don't want it, worse after insulting you.

Because he still wants sex, not a relationship.
Dirtyboyy67 · 56-60, M
@calicuz I think we have a winner!

Yeah, I split up with my Hubby 8 months ago, after 15 years together, was a little hard at first, but I think I'm getting past some of the emotions. He does not want to be friends but still tries to call me nearly every day, at first I took the calls, but decided about 6 months ago, no more. Time to move on.

@Amyishere hard but necessary...

His anger... that is saying something (not positive) and it isn't a reasonable response nor a mature response. More like an emotionally immature 14 year old response.

Personally I*'d tell him to back off and give you time to think about being friends. If he doesn't like it, it is his loss, not yours.
I'm sorry about what happened, that's really hard. When we say "let's be friends", it means the same as "no hard feelings" or "let's call a truce".
I think you are wise not to be his friend right now. Maybe down the line you can be, but for now just stay away. Unless you have kids together, then there's no reason to stay in contact. Don't reach out, but don't lock him out either. Try to keep the cyber stalking to a minimum if you can.
@lilangel It's too soon to tell at this point. No contact does wonders though

@GohantheThird he reached out last Saturday after he broke up with me a week prior asking me to be friends and I said no, then he proceeded to tell me I was being a brat and that validated his decision in breaking up with me. I couldn’t be just his friends that’s why I said no. Then today happend. I rejected his message about being friends and now he officially said bye, so I have no idea now.
@lilangel next time he writes you, don't respond. This dude is being super flip-floppity right now, so even if he seems interested it's not valid. Just move forward with or without him.
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
Depends on the person.. just because they didn’t think you were the best fit for them or they for you.. doesn’t mean that they didn’t care about you.. or as other people said.. could just be they want the sex..

Could be they thought they’d get another gf right away and they don’t have that so now they slowly begin to see themselves as more insignificant, and their life as more dreadfully droll as being by yourself becomes boring when you lose a person you spent a lot of your time with..

It’s up to you to decide what it is.. no one else here is going to know the person as well as you do..
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
Unfortunately, I think he only wants to be "friends with benefits' with you. If you are not interested in him in that way, you need to move on.
Uncannyoak · M
If I was your bf I wouldn’t have broken up with you I’d try to work it out with you beautiful
Mktonght · 61-69, M
I may be way off base, but my gut feeling is that his reaction and his reasoning is describing "emotional immaturity" is him wanting more sex and you are not wanting to do that? If so, you are the much more mature person and stick to your morals no matter what or who your in a relationship with.
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
if someone cant accept you for who u are they dont need to be with u. U will find someone who will totaly love u and make u happy.. just dont rush or force it.

He wants to know that you are still attached to him in some way, possibly trying to get some bedroom action as well
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
The friend thing is just an easy way out for guys. They don’t really mean it. They just think it lessens the blow when they dump us
Barny52 · 56-60, M

His loss

Beats me. Sounds like he has his own problems to work out.

Good question. Did you think to ask him?
DaveyTaco · 31-35, M
Good for you for standing up for yourself.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
Well friends shouldn't be toxic to you
Let him go. Try to be happy with yourself.

Welcome back here
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
Get rid of him
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
He wants to have his cake and eat it too. Meaning have you around as a friend that he can also have sex with but have no commitment to you.

He knows you didn’t want to lose him. I would ditch him.

Maybe the answer is that it's simply too soon to be friends. To expect to change from a couple to friends overnight, unless it has already happened organically, is unreasonable. He needs to give you time.
TheLordOfHell · 41-45
Yeah you have a good point. Let him go if he has that effect on you
lilangel · 26-30, F
@TheLordOfHell He knows I still wanted to be with him but thinks that I'm supposed to be okay with jus being friends
