How to help someone that is depressed?

My husband recently got demoted and had to take a pay cut. He is taking it very hard. He thinks he is worthless and can't do anything right. Also that everytime something good happens something happens to make it miserable again. Please HELP! 😢

We are in a recession in alberta, canada and a lot of people has lost their jobs. Looking at your husband's situation from a different angle, you can encourage him to still be grateful that he still has a job. And a job doesnt define who he is as a man.

@wave001211: thank you I have tried that but it doesn't work.

well.. as people we have got hooked to figures that have actually no meaning in it .. When our pay gets cut, we need to react and start cutting what we pay to others .. that's when they too reduce their figure and come back to us ..

its just a vicious cycle... we just need to pass on what we get .. be it good or bad .. share it with others .. never store anything, for it is not yours to keep.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, the ink pen, the lighter and the hat! Yeah it hurts like a motherfucker, but have faith.I'm 58 and it's happened to me twice in my (not so illustrious)career.He WILL recover.It may take months or even a year (like in my last case)but it will happen.Keep working, keep swimming, stay active and don't feel sorry for yourself.Side-hustle, network, work all the OT you can, update your resume and PRAY!! Remember, it won't happen in your time,but it WILL happen!I'm in your corner.Good luck!

He probably needs some help with building his confidence, which will be hard and will take some time. Think of some things that will help you achieve this, but not all at once. Something different each day. You should also do things to take his mind of this situation, like an evening out. It will take time, but he'll get better.

@SharonW: I was trying to take him on a day hike but he said we have to save money for our daughter. She is in college and getting ready to come home for the summer.

@Rollercoaster97: is hiking expensive?
Rollercoaster97 · 51-55, F
@Finerthings no we just travel about an hour for the really good hikes. It is like a day trip for us.

problem is, most of us men value our self worth with what we do in life for work 1st and second how we are as husbands/fathers. When they get out of Whack it brings our world apart. There is nothing you can do for him. This is something he is just going to have to workout in his own head. My only advice is to treat him the same as you always have and DON"T patronize him. That's be much worse.

thank you for your reply.

I hope this situation has gotten better for you and him and all involved? I’ve had periods when out of work and underemployed. You should let him hear Montgomery Gentry “Something to be Proud Of”. The words to that song always resonate with me

@Ambroseguy80 thanks for the advice.
Take him to the family doctor for something mild until he can get stronger.

@Starshine: I have been looking at psychologist
@Rollercoaster97: an antidepressant is a good thing for depression.It would help him stabilize. I take them and I couldn't do without them sometimes.
